Hi all hope everyone is staying safe . I am so grateful of the experts on this forum . I have only just started taking Morningside T3 10mcg am 5mcg 3pm and 5mcg 11pm . Been on it almost 2 weeks and practically straight away I have experienced itchy skin on my scalp, face and body . Its driving me insane . I have been known to be allergic to fillers in tablets before the only trouble is I dont know which filler. I wondered of anyone else has had this problem.and what might be the filler to watch out for ? Thank you all in advance. Regards Lesley

Try a different brand. I found teva readily available at boots. Means splitting 20mcg tablet with pill cutter though.

Well, the excipients are:

6.1 List of excipients

Lactose monohydrate,

Partially pregelatinized maize starch,

Spray dried acacia,

Sodium chloride,

Magnesium stearate.

medicines.org.uk/emc/produc...

Unlikely to be Sodium chloride!

I’m on my second month Thybon Henning and have itchy lower legs (though other areas fine). I am going to discuss at my Endo appointment coming up, as I can’t work out if it’s linked to reducing my dose of T4 in December (150-125mcg) or introducing 2x 5 of T3 (all done slowly, following forum advice). I take a daily B Complex (Thorne Basic B) & know it’s not low B causing the itching. I will have to ask advice re fillers in my T3, as leaflets all in German. Hopefully my GP will provide NHS prescription, so will ask for brand without fillers. I hope you find answers to eliminate your itch. I’m using aromatherapy oils to help ease my itchy skin- drops of frankincense, geranium & lavender in a carrier oil (I’m using almond).

Thank you Buddy195 x I have tried thybon henning and no itch at all . I guess I'm just going to stop taking it to check if it goes away . I take 125 levo and 20 t3 only reason I tried this is my consultant suggested I take 10 then 5 then 5 throughout the day . To make sure I get exact dosing. Think I will need to go back to mercury pharma or thybon henning xx thanks and hope you get on ok with consultant. Itching is not nice 😧

Omg I thought it was just me I have been taking it too I am itching all over they switched me from the brand name synthroid cause the price was hurting my pocket and I never itched on the brand name the dr doesn’t believe me he thinks I’m crazy he said oh it’s the same meds and I told him I think I’m allergic to the fillers so I called the pharmacy and they are gonna switch my script back to the brand name I think it has also caused me to have a constant sore swollen tonsil I hope you find some relief

Just to note, this post was about liothyronine. Synthroid is levothyroxine.

Obviously, the same sort of issue can apply to both - this is only meant to make sure that no-one misunderstands. :-)

Hi Crystalynn, my original post was about T3 (liothyronine ) but I also had the same reaction to Levothyroxine (which I think is Synthroid) . All tablets are not equal , some have different fillers than others and I do have to specify Mercury Pharma for my Levothyroxine and I'm afraid I'm going to have to revert back to cutting my T3 tablet into three pieces as the Morningside T3 isn't suiting me at all . Itching all over is an awful feeling , I find I'm not too bad while really busy but as soon as I try to relax I am constantly scratching and cannot get peace . Lots of antihistamines and lotions to keep skin cool kind if helps. I really feel your pain xx as I'm typing im trying to ignore the itch on my wrist ,face and back ! X hope you get sorted and have some relief regards Lesley

I've always taken my dose of T3 once daily, as recommended by Dr John Lowe and expert in the use of T3 who took T3 himself as he had 'thyroid hormone resistance'.

Try taking one antihistamine tablet one hour before your next dose and if it relieves your symptoms, you may have to take another make of T3 or an antihistamine tablet before one hour before the present one.. I must also state I'm not medically qualified but I take T3 alone.

I had similar itching and tiny little red spots on face, neck and chest on Tiromel. It seemed to work well apart from that. I do not get the itching/red rash on Mercury but it does seem inconsistent. I’ve been on it for years and mostly do really well but have had periods of going downhill and symptoms returning. This is usually when it’s not a long expiry date. Previously I was on Thybon Henning which I loved and felt that it was the better one for me out of the three. I wish I could get it on NHS.
