You first of all need to decide which form of magnesium is best suited for yopur needs, I gave you links to articles which outlined what each form was best for, only you can decide which form you need, so sort that first then come back ask for suggestions of which brand and supplier of "magnesium xxxxxxxx.

in reply toSeasideSusie

I think I’ll look at ordering the magnesium citrate.

OK, so magnesium citrate is good for constipation, so you are sure that's what you need? If so then my suggestion would be to look atNatural Calm Original Magnesium Citrate powder

Using the powder form means that you can start with a small amount and gradually increase it to the dose that is effective for you. If you develop diarrhoea then you drop back a little to the previous amount which gave you a bowel movement without diarrhoea. If you use a tablet form you get a set amount that you won't be able to tweak to suit your individual needs plus tablets contain excipients. The powder I have linked to is pure with no additives as long as you buy the "original" which is unflavoured. You dissolve the powder in a little warm water and I add some orange juice and it makes a pleasant drink.

This supplier sells at a good price, and I buy the 453 gram size as it is better value:

dolphinfitness.co.uk/en/nat...

You can also find it on Amazon:

amazon.co.uk/Natural-Anti-S...

There are possibly other suppliers.

Check any delivery charges to see whose total cost is cheapest.

Many thanks.

I haven’t decided which one yet as they’re all beneficial.

I think I’ll look at ordering the magnesium citrate.

presumably you looked through them and decided that

one was most suitable?? 🤷‍♀️ If you don't suffer from constipation

then don't use magnesium citrate.

in reply toSeasideSusie

I do suffer constipation at times.Taurate, Malate, Glycinate, Chloride and Carbonate all appear beneficial also. That’s why I haven’t decided yet.

Citrate - for constipation and may help when kidney stones are present

Taurate - for cardiovascular issues

Malate - for fatigue and energy issues

Glycinate - best for long term magnesium deficiency

Chloride - detoxes cells/tissues, aids kidney function

Carbonate - for indigestion and acid reflux

Are you saying you suffer from all these conditions?

in reply toSeasideSusie

Taurate…could be a preventative so can only be a good thing.

Malate…I am tired now!

Glycinate…I have no idea if I have long term deficiency but I haven’t taken a mag supplement before so maybe I have?

Chloride…can only be a good thing.

Carbonate…I don’t have indigestion problems whilst eating correctly.

I need to make my mind up I know.

Concentrate on what they are for not what you think they might prevent or because they sound like a good thing. Choose the one that is closest to what you may have a problem with.

in reply toSeasideSusie

Yes good advice. Thanks.Just checked my vit d3+k2 and it contains magnesium stearate.

Same with my turmeric extract complex. 🤦‍♀️

Could you recommend a brand/supplier for the d3+k2 please?

it contains magnesium stearate.

That's not a magnesium supplement, it's an excipient, a "flow agent" that prevents ingredients sticking to each other. Some people like to avoid magnesium stearate but it's not always possible.

Could you recommend a brand/supplier for the d3+k2 please?

I take mine as two separate supplements. Do you want a combined supplement or individual ones? How much D3 do you need? Or, alternatively, what is your current Vit D level?

in reply toSeasideSusie

As of March 2021 vitamin d was 78.40

Range:

<30 deficient

30-50 insufficient

175> consider reducing dose

As you know I have a Medichecks lab here ready to take.

SeasideSusie profile image
SeasideSusieRemembering in reply to

If your new test includes Vit D then come back with results and I will suggest what dose you need. Your level from last March is too old.

Are you currently taking D3, if so what dose?

in reply toSeasideSusie

I was taking d3 k2 until I checked the label this morning. I wasn’t taking it before March 2021 lab.D3 4000iu NRV 2000%

K2 MK-7 100ug. NRV 133%

Do you think it’s ok with the Mag Stearate until I find a new brand?

I just don’t know with these things. Maybe more harm than good.

I would continue with your D3/K2 until you've got your new results then post new results and I can tell you if you need to change your dose. Continue taking it until the day before the test, on the day of the test take it after the blood draw.

We can't always avoid magnesium stearate, it's up to you whether you want to take supplements with it in. When you've got your new result I'll let you know what I take and if you prefer a combined supplement I can make a suggestion.

Thank you so much for your guidance. 🌺

I use nutravita magnesium citrate which I buy from Amazon - other retailers stock it too. I have found it excellent and it has really helped my hypo symptoms especially head aches and fuzzy head. It looks gluten, dairy and soy free, but please check for your self! It does contain bamboo extract which when you Google it some say contains gluten and others that it is gluten free - so you might wish to double check with nutravita themselves.

Thank you. 🌸

If you decide you want to try a chloride, I have found Better You (either the flakes or the oil spray - I use the sensitive) suits me well, with none of the above. Cheers

Thank you. I will take a look.

I like Solgar 200 mg Magnesium tablets, free of gluten, dairy, soya, sweeteners, yeast, preservatives or artificial flavours. But they’re quite large so no good if you have trouble swallowing.

Further to my post about Solgar, have just seen that they do contain magnesium stearate!!
