My gp who always said, “after taking thyroxine nearly 50 years you know your own body better than me “ has retired. For the past 6 years I have had private blood tests every 6 months and am on 1.25 t4 a day, sometimes my t4 is above range but is usually back under range 6 months later and I have felt better than I ever did when doctors yo yod my dose. For the first 20 years of taking t4 I was very much overdosed by doctors with little knowledge, thus I like to be in control of my own medication.
I was diagnosed with tarsel tunnel syndrome in both ankles in March, now I have tingling in hands face and feet and a very twitchy eye. My new gp, who I have never met due to telephone appointments has decided that my latest nhs TSH is too suppressed ( which it has been for 50 years as my problem is it has never worked and I don’t have hashis) and T4 is too high and insisted I drop my dose to alternate days of 100 and retest after 4 weeks. Today is the start of week 3 and I have all the symptoms I get when underdosed and feel awful.
My private results in JUNE were
TSH 0.02…(0.27 to 4.2)
T4……21.5 (12 to 22)
T3……5.0…(3.1 to 6.8
Latest nhs results in OCTOBER
TSH…0.02..(0.27to22)
T4…26.3..(12to22)
I don’t want to take any extra t4 than he wants me to take as I want to prove I need it when I am tested in 2 weeks time.
My question is ……I have some t3 and I f I take some to relieve my symptoms will it alter a true result for my tsh and t4 blood test I am to have in 2 weeks.
Also how much should I take? ( I have some out of date 2020 ..25mcg tiromel)
I have asked my gp if I can have a calcium test added to my blood test in 2 weeks as to me my tingling symptoms are pointing in that direction and he said he is sure my symptoms will go when t4 is reduced but if not he will consider it!
