hi again...I posted about a month ago showing my blood test results from March. according to my useless ignorant gp all my results are normal no further action!! despite most of the symptoms of hypothyroidism and feeling so ill for 6 years. I pushed for new blood test and these are my new results.

please can you see if you think it's hypothyroidism or hypopitituarism as I want to see a private endocrinologist.

tsh 1.35 (0.34 - 5.6)

t4 7.7 ( 8 -18)

t3 4.2 (3.8 -6)

ferritin was 22

folate 6.1

thank you

Even more so now, because FT4 has fallen below range, I think your results suggest Central Hypothyroidism, discussed in your previous thread here

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

where links were given for information from reputable sources which you can show your doctor/endo

I cannot say it is hypopitituarism because you don't know, at this stage, whether your problem lies with the pituitary or the hypothalamus to be suggesting Central Hypothyroidism, I imagine specific tests will need to be carried out for a diagnosis.

Ferritin is lower than before, suggestion given in previous thread on how to raise it.

Folate - who knows as you've not given the range, but a good B complex will raise it, eg. Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B.

You need to self supplement to improve all your vitamin levels.

What supplements are you taking?

B12 and folate too low

Ferritin is terrible. You need full iron panel done to test for Anaemia. See a different GP

Have you had vitamin D tested ?

If not, get tested via

vitamindtest.org.uk

£29 NHS postal kit - very easy

Obviously your thyroid levels are very poor. FT4 below range and FT3 too low. Low vitamins are almost certainly not helping and getting these optimal is essential

Email Thyroid UK for list of recommended thyroid specialists

please email Dionne

thank you so much for replying. I take folic acid now and ferrous fumarate but only since I got these results. I had a private vit d test it showed good levels and I used to take b12 but I stopped when they told me in March my levels were high enough.

I mentioned my low ferritin last time they said it's a good level for a premenopausal woman and if it dropped under 10 they'd prescribe iron tablets.

I can't return to my gp any more since 2 doctors said I had health anxiety and a touch of hypochondria and asked why I wanted to be diagnosed with a thyroid problem I didn't have !! despite 4 other family members hypo and most symptoms I am apparently just menopausal anxious and a worrier.

I am going to register with another surgery but I don't hold out much hope they all pee in the same pot.

if I email dionne will she know of private specialists up north as most seem to be southern .

thank you again

Thank you for your great post. Does the fumarate cause constipation?

I've just started it but sadly all the other iron tablets do yes

If you have secondary/tertiary hypothyroidism there is a possibility that you also have adrenal issues. Have you considered ordering the saliva cortisol test? You can order it privately via the main Thyroid UK website. This is another test your GP won't accept, but I can tell you from personal experience what a difference treating adrenals can make.

If you can get to Crawley, you might consider making an appointment to see Dr P. He started me on the road to appropriate thyroid and adrenal supplementation about 5 years ago now.

He no longer runs touring clinics but I was told yesterday that he does still patients in Crawley.

thank you...I know some level is too high or too low at night with me being unable to sleep til 4am..but if it's high cortisol which I have looked at its pretty much incurable isn't it?

and I can't get to Crawley it's 5 hours plus one way and we run a business 7 days a week so I need to find a specialist nearer to me sadly.

I can't do anything til I change doctors and then I'll try once again to ask to be referred to an endocrinologist and hopefully a scan on my pitituary see if there's an issue. sadly I think I'll be fobbed off again due to their ranges and although I'm below on one the others are in range. if I get nowhere I'm seeing a private endocrinologist and taking it from there

I have low cortisol, not high. Never guess - it's worth ordering the saliva cortisol test to be sure. If you are going high, not low, then you can look at things such as Holy Basil taken in the evening to bring your cortisol down, or seriphos to bring it down. Also you could look at adaptogenic herbs. But I'd suggest you get the test done first.

thank you...I'll change doctors first and try to get referred then I'll take the cortisol test meantime thanks

It varies. Some people manage to lower their high cortisol, optimise their thyroid, and the cortisol stays down.

I used to have high cortisol all day, but now I only treat it in the evening. If I stop treating it I go downhill quite quickly. In my case I consider the problem to be "manageable". I sleep much better than I used to although bad nights are still much more frequent than I'd like.

how do you lower your cortisol at night if mine turns out to be high ?

I already take iron vit c folate and magnesium but you've mentioned a b vitamin complex can anyone recommend a good one to buy . I know alot of them have too many fillers and rubbish in with them so could you tell me a good one to take and do i take it with my evening meal thank you

As a general rule of thumb, take vitamins early in the day and minerals later in the day. So a B Complex should be taken in the morning, but at least an hour after any thyroid meds (when you finally get them).

I wouldn't take any B complex vitamins in the evening, they can keep you awake 😳

I bought a B complex today I'll take them first thing . I've made an appt for the last ditch attempt with my old surgery to be taken seriously and referred but the earliest appt is 3 weeks today. then when I'm fobbed off and laughed at I'll do my cortisol test and move surgery. thanks

just a quick question...I got my print out of test results so I can highlight them for doctor in 3 weeks. I've no doubt at all I'll get nowhere but I'm going to push the free t4 being under their range...is that an important one to be low? thanks

That’s why it’s being suggested it’s secondary hypothyroidism - a pituitary problem. It’s possible that Peroxideblader’s pituitary gland just isn’t capable of producing more than a tiny amount of TSH for some reason (could be lots of reasons why, including a bang on the head in the past through to haemorrhaging post childbirth) - which in turn means the thyroid isn’t being prompted to make T4 and T3.

I have spent the last 2 years studying all sorts of info and I agree with you. I had 2 private blood tests both showed below level and nhs showed below on one set of bloods but when they said they'd re test me my level was just in range so that was that..no further action.

I'm just so sick of feeling ill and tonight just summed my life up. we had to cancel a night away with entertainment all paid for as I'm so poorly and so low. I've had a massive panic attack and collapsed..my marriage will be over at this rate because everyone believes doctors and not me..

if anyone knows of an endocrinologist nearer me I'm desperate. I'm in lancaster lancashire la5 8jz..thank you
