I initially started on 20mg of carbimazole, then I went down to 15mg and i am presently just taking 5mg once a day.
I have a phone appointment with an endocrinologist next week and he requested the below thyroid tests.
I had the test for Graves disease and that was negative so more than likely I have Hashimoto's.
Date: 27/09/2021
TSH: 1.110 range (0.27 - 4.2)
Free T4: 9.0 range (12 - 22)
Free T3: 4.8 range (3.1-6.8)
I had a lot of muscle weakness in my legs until I cut the carbimazole down to 5mg a little over 3 weeks ago- legs are better now but still feel quite tired, don't have the energy I used to have and not sleeping great.
Any feedback would be great.
Thanks

Jassie if you have hashimotos then carbimazole is completely the wrong treatment. Hashimotos often starts with a phase that mimics Graves hyperthyroidism so you need to go by antibody results.
TPO & TGab are highest in autoimmune Hashimotos. Can be positive in both conditions.
Positive TSI & TRab are sufficient to diagnose Graves.
If you have Autoimmune Thyroiditis & not Graves then your levels would be hyper for a transient time, but would then drop. Being on carbimazole will hasten the drop, so generally carbimazole is not given If diagnosed with hashis. Ask why doctor has kept you on it. your FT4 is already quite low.
How frequently are you being tested? General 6 weekly is standard until stable, but if a drop is expected and you are being kept on carbimazole I think you should be offered more frequent testing.
Ask for ultra scan of thyroid, this will indicate any autoimmune damage & confirm thyroiditis and will detect any nodules.
Have you had folate, ferritin, B12 & vitamin D tested?
Thanks for reply, I was tested for TRab and it was negative. I have had TPO antibodies tested and they are always high. I think the doctor is reducing the carbimazole slowly. I get tested every 6-8 weeks. I have a goiter that needs to be removed but thyroid results need to be normal for that to be removed by ENT specialist. I will talk to endocrinologist next week about coming off the carbimazole altogether.
Your results are currently normal. The goitre is one sided? Has it not been scanned? Is it affecting airway, voice or swallowing? What’s the reason for removal?
