I would want mine in range and wouldn't be able to function very well with your level of FT4.
Maybe NDT isn't the right ratio of T4:T3 for you and with synthetic T4 and T3 you can tweak the dose to fine tune it to the optimal levels of each for your own needs.
Just spent £500 on armour as my usual cheaper NDT is no longer available! I tried synthetic T4 and T3 before NDT but felt so ill on it and ended up in hospital for a week! I just don't know what to do now anymore. Maybe I should give T4 & T3 another try. How would I go about swapping over? What should my T4 be? Many thanks again.
Unfortunately no-one can tell you that, only you will know. We are all different as to where we need our individual hormone levels and what's right for me or anyone else may not be right for you. Some people are fine with low FT4 if FT3 is in the upper part of it's range, some of us need both FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of the ranges.
If you didn't get on with synthetic T4 and T3 before, seeing as you've just spent a lot on Armour, why not reduce your dose by the smallest possible amount (1/4 grain maybe?) and just see what happens.
It might be worth seeing if your GP will arrange a bone scan for you. If everything is fine then you may be OK running a high FT3 but nobody here can guarantee it.
I too found Armour T3 potent so have successfully reduced dose & added some Levo. I previously medicated WPThyroid for several years.
You may find because of the T3 in Armour, your body is more tolerant of Levo now. Long term over-range T3 levels risk bone absorption exceeding bone production resulting in a net loss of bone mass.
Hi SlowDragon,Yes I have Hashimoto and I'm on a strict gluten free diet and have been for more than four years now.
I went to a Germany 18 months ago and had a stem cell transplant and multiple infusions for Lymes Disease (which I also have). It hasn't really helped.
My Vit D level is good and I still take it every day. 2000iu
I have high iron which I thought was a slight problem but my GP thinks it's ok!
My B12 is also high so I have had to reduce it for a few weeks before checking again.
I'm not current not on any other supplements apart from the Vit D & K
I have started using a far infrared mat to see if that improves my health.
I still feel extremely unwell and constantly exhausted so something still isn't right.
Is there anything else that I should be checking?
Maybe your ft4 is too low for you. Some people need it higher. I take Armour and add a bit of T4 to it, still tweaking it. When my ft4 falls, I start to feel fatigued. I take everything in one go in the morning and test after 24 hours. Are you splitting your dose?
If you take everything at night, I wonder how your ft3 ft4 are. The best would be to do the test after 24 hrs, so in the evening to understand where you ft3 is.
This is what people on this forum say, but also you will find people here who test after 24 hours of taking NDT.
Nothing changes for me as I take t4 and Armour in the morning in one go and test the next morning.
It really, really is, I am very frustrated with it myself, have a test on Wednesday to understand what is happening. Big hug!!
I think the most important question is - " How are you feeling " ?
The blood tests ranges and guidelines were all introduced to be used alongside Big Pharmas launch of synthetic T3 and T4 thyroid hormone replacement.
With NDT you dose to the relief of symptoms and not a blood test, and if I needed to have a blood test to " please " my doctor I would have to wait 24 hours from last dose of my NDT to blood draw.
There are now websites up and running with Thai NDT and T4 :
No thyroid hormone replacement works well until your core strength vitamins and minerals, ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D at at optimal levels.
Conversion of T4 into T3 can also be compromised by any physiological stress - (emotional or physical ) inflammation, dieting, depression and ageing.
My T3 result is very much like yours after 10/12 hours and my T4 runs at around 25% through the range.
