Good morning! I am in the process of securing my NDT prescription from my private endo and I am wondering where is the best place to buy my prescription? I obviously don’t want to pay a ridiculous amount, so wondered if you guys could help with what you pay monthly and from where? I have been calling pharmacies (to try and speed up the process) but until I have the prescription most won’t tell me the cost. Thank you in advance 🙂

What do you pay for your NDT private prescription?
Do you know which NDT will be prescribed? There are not many options at present. It's either Erfa or Armour. (assuming you are in the UK). Erfa is cheaper.
The ThyroidUK list of pharmacies is useful. I rang round several of them earlier this year. Some are more helpful than others. Some are fussy about the wording on the prescription.

As the pills come in bottles of 100 I've found that it's best if you can get your doctor to prescribe in that amount. My last one asked for Armour Thyroid 1 grain, x bottles of 100 1 grain tablets, which seemed to be acceptable. Armour is produced in several different sizes, but the 1 grain size is the cheapest (though not exactly cheap). The first prescription for Armour that I had said 1.5 grains per day and I was being quoted for 1.5grain pills, which wasn't much help as I take it in 2 doses. I managed to get someone to fulfil it as 1 grain pills, then used a pill cutter for the halves.
Once you have your prescription you can send a scan of the prescription to several pharmacies to get quotes. Then you can decide which one to accept. They can't dispense until you've decided which quote to accept and then you post the paper prescription to them, so it takes a few days. I seem to have hit bank holiday weekends recently which slowed things up a bit as well!
Hope that helps.
