Th1 & Th2 Cytokines Test

Has anyone got any information or opinion on testing for Th1 /Th2 cytokine dominance?

I am experiencing a chronic fatigue relapse & am researching all possible avenues.Just come across Th1/Th2 cytokine dominance testing & have got my woowoo antennae up while remaining open-minded to scientifically valid financial outlays.

I've had results back from Medichecks(Advanced Thyroid panel)& will be upping my vitamin D & possibly adding a small amount of T3 to my NDT.

Time to do another adrenals saliva test, too.

Naomi8,

I researched this test years ago before it became available in the UK.

I wanted to know which supplements and adaptogens suited me after horrible episodes with thyroid hormone.

Now I'm not so sure what benefits it would bring knowing which pathway is dominant because when something doesn't suit we recognise through some intolerance or allergy.

Why are you considering it?

The last time I experienced such a profound chronic fatigue was before adding T3 in 2015 & going on to 2 years on T3-only following Paul Robinson's adrenal healing protocol.(I was previously on T4-only for 16 years).I have been on NDT since coming off T3-only.I have experienced periods of pronounced fatigue but nothing this debilitating.4 things come to mind as a possibly cause:-using Ashwagandha & Holy Basil(now stopped)

2 periods of high anxiety as a result of an extreme reaction to stress

Part of a pattern that includes 3 periods of high anxiety depressive states.

AstraZenica vaccinations.

I haven't done a saliva adrenal test since 2012 when I started this journey as a result of a 2 year high anxiety depression state .I had 4 outside range results-3 low 1 high.

I label this chronic fatigue syndrome & suspect adrenal fatigue.

I noticed it starting when I began experiencing profound fatigue after moderate exercise.

I had this tested at the end of last year (for fertility issues as part of IVF treatment). Both pathways were elevated and imbalanced. I was prescribed Humira which didn’t have any sustained effect. Following that I was prescribed Hydroxychloroqine which seems to be doing an amazing job.

sazzle2680,

Wow, that’s amazing. I didn’t realise fertility clinics used such functional approaches. Not sure about the fairly harsh prescription though as in functional medicine powerful herbs and adaptogens are used to encourage balance.

Most Hashi sufferers are TH-1 dominant so compounds that stimulate TH-2 are lycopene, pycnogenol, pine bark extract, etc, whilst echinacea, astragalus, etc are avoided, and other health conditions which may be dominant in another pathway might dictate a quite different prescription.

The inflammation element of Hashi can be huge and often overlooked in ordinary medicine. Pregnancy can shift the immune system temporarily to TH-2. If you already inflamed and a natural TH-1, this can cause pregnancy complications. This is why a lot of undiagnosied Hashi women suddenly feel great during pregnancy but suddenly find out they have Hashi after they give birth when their immune system returns to TH-1 dominance with a vengeance.

There is also research into thyroid antibodies crossing the placenta and the origin of the TPOAb in those babies born is thought to be from the mother. I commented in a post about this quite recently. Look at the end of the thread.

Lots of luck 😊

Very interesting - thank you.

The harshness of the prescription I think is a reflection of how imbalanced and elevated things where for me. I had been, and continue to take pycnogenol and Berberine daily but I was so inflammatory I would say it to any doctor that would listen. I had chronic swelling in every limb of my body and all I was being told was to lose weight.

I’m Hashis. Everything was in range, but I felt dreadful - wasn’t converting. I started on a small dose of T3 alongside a reduced dose of Levo, which helped. My B12 was in my boots, so I started with twice weekly injections...I was better, but still inflammatory feeling, and started on hydroxy. It’s literally changed my life. I haven’t felt this well in several years, maybe a decade.

I was having embryo transfer after transfer which ended in early miscarriage or no implantation. The cytokine and NK cell bloods were my last ditch attempt to figure out what was going on. Trying again soon. Keeping everything crossed.
