I found this a few days ago and found it interesting. As another perspective.

I wonder what my GP would say if I asked to have my cytokines tested? :-/

I am still smarting from the use of the word quackery when I asked for a private T3 prescription. >:( GP probably doesn't know what a cytokine is!

On a serious note, I’d shame him/her into finding out. If they don’t know then that’s it? 🤷🏾‍♀️

Or I’d take some print outs and make another appointment after I’d ask them to read up on it. Gps are getting away with too much. At our expense.

I think I had a run in with this in action recently. I tried the progestogen only contraceptive pill and found that writhing days my symptoms had worsened hugely, particularly neck swelling and pain. It felt like my body was going nuts on my thyroid like I’d never experienced before - it was incredibly acute.

In my search for answers, I found a paper linking hashimotos to TH1 dominance and some other papers linking progesterone dominance to TH2 dominance.

Once I stopped the pill the effect was almost immediate and my symptoms went on the turn. However, I found that my recently increased dose of levo became very quickly inadequate.

In honesty, I don’t actually know what happened but this was the only link (tenuous though it possibly is) that I could find between a downturn in thyroid health and the progestogen only pill. Of course the GP didn’t recognise it as a possibility!
