Hi everyone
I am hypothyroid and assuming I have Hashimotos. I read somewhere today that there could be a link between taking the vaccination and developing Alzheimers if you have Hashimotos. I don’t want to alarm anyone and I can’t find the article but I’m still looking. Has anyone else read or heard this? I have my vaccination appointment on Saturday but really concerned now.

I would not waste my time looking for that article. I would go and get your vaccine and not worry. I think it’s very very unlikely this is true!
There’s a huge Facebook group called Hashimoto’s 411 who have created a file on the links between vaccinations in general and Hashi’s. Obviously they don’t discuss it, it’s just in their help section. May or may not be of use xx
I suspect it's just another idea from the Anti Vax brigade, probably best ignored along with the other rubbish they spout!
I actually think it is hate speech to label people as Anti Vaxxer, a name used in a derogatory way, just because they hold different views! I am all for free speech and debate without censorship. I am not against vaccinations per se, having had more than my fair share of vaccines and radiation therapy over the years, due to travel and 2 rounds of breast cancer. However I have also developed Hashimoto's and Orthostatic Tremor and Pernicious Anemia all since taking those precautions and treatments and I won't be in any hurry to roll up my sleeve for what is still an experimental gene therapy that has not had any LONG TERM trials and DOES NOT fit the medical definition of a true vaccine because it DOES NOT prevent infection or transmission. We are dealing with our own individual health concerns and we must make our own Informed decision , after all , no one is going to accept liability for any adverse reaction that we may have in the short term or long term and so we must do our own thorough research and if we have a concern follow it through and find out the risks.
Hi Juanita, I posted a similar post about the vaccination possibly worsening auto-immune diseases but there isn't information on this, and, I am sure there cannot be information about Alzheimer's, With Alzheimer's because it develops so slowly, it wouldn't be possible even if a trial had been started as soon as the vaccination was created, to have any meaningful data for some time. I am having my first vaccination tomorrow and like you hoping I'm not going to regret it in the long term but have decided my need for physical connection with family (who live far away) is greater than my concerns about possible long-term effects of the vaccination. Also, my daughter is a vet who has looked at how this vaccine works and she can see no reason why it might affect the body differently from say the flu vaccine, even though it's rna.
Shall we put our worries aside and look forward to the joys we used to take for granted?
Also please spare a thought for those of is for whom it is a fait accompli before posting stories which may increase the anxiety many of us are suffering at the moment...
No one really knows as the vaccines haven't been around long enough to tell. I doubt that there is a link specifically between Hashis and Alzheimer's. If you think the vaccine will benefit you, have it. If not, don't.

There is little to no evidence as yet from which to draw any rational conclusions about whether people with Hashimotos and/or other autoimmune diseases should or should not have the Covid-19 vaccination.
In the UK, having a Covid-19 vaccination is a personal choice.
