I'm new here. How does COVID-19 affect people that already have Hypothyroidism and Hashimotos disease?

Question about COVID-19 and Hashimotos Disease
Welcome.
If you type covid 19 into the search function on this site and then filter the results for thyroid UK you will get 121 posts on that very topic.
This thyroiduk.org/who-we-are/wh... might answer your specific concerns.
Probably covered in the suggested links - make sure your VitD is over 60ng/L to lessen any effects.
It is said we are at no greater risk providing our general health is good. So vitamin and mineral levels ok etc and we are healthy in terms of our weight and lifestyle etc.
Already lots of great info posted on this but one thing I haven't seen that I would worry about is the impact of getting ill and having a flare up. Being ill (cold, flu, etc.) can cause autoimmune flare-ups so I would presume this would be the same with COVID. So whilst the risk from COVID is no greater I wonder if we'd just feel pretty rough if some of the Hashimoto's symptoms then also get triggered. Before I had my hashimoto's under control (thanks to the AIP diet) whenever I got even a small cold it always made me feel far sicker.
Thanks. What's the AIP Diet?

Abbreviations and Acronyms
Some years ago, I started compiling a list of many of the abbreviations and acronyms that appear here regularly. The idea was to make it relatively quick and easy to look up abbreviations and acronyms without being waylaid by the many irrelevant possibilities web searches tend to return.
I continue to update the document quite frequently!

You might never have downloaded a copy, or not for some time, perhaps months or years If so, I suggest you download a copy and save it (or a shortcut) somewhere easy to find.
Please, if you think there is anything missing or wrong, let me know. Post on the forum or send me a Private Message.
If I have posted this because you asked about an abbreviation or acronym, please take this as intended, a way of helping you now and into the future. Not a criticism that you asked.
It's a diet specifically for autoimmune conditions and aims to lower inflammatory responses. If you do it properly you start with an elimination diet to identify which foods set you off - I didn't bother with this but just went straight to AIP diet which I have tailored to my needs (e.g. I don't have an issue with eggs, & I avoid eating too many goiterous foods, soy & artificial sweeteners because of the thyroid). Because it's quite restrictive it can be quite hard at first but you do get used to it. An easier way to get into it to start with one of two big food groups (e.g. gluten) and once you are used to that then move onto the full diet. Another gentler way into it is to take it over 6 months, trying to get stricter each month.
