Hello thyroid friends!

A little about me,

I was first diagnosed with an under active thyroid after my first child 18 years at the age of 21 went on to have another 2 amazing little humans. 2 years ago I decided to go AIP I definitely feel better for it and feel focused. I am now dairy free, gluten free and soy free. I try to avoid corn, night shades and refined sugars.

I have had problems with my shoulder on and off for years and have been seen by a private physio who said it is my router cuff. Done everything she said and the pain eased off. Also seen her for lower back pain which disappeared as soon as I change my eating.

Back to the shoulder so I have been looking up b12 deficiency I can tick a few of the symptoms on the NHS website (except the weight loss)

My doctor’s advice was to stop paying out so much money for my VitD, probiotics, iron and zinc and to save my money and go on holiday. I didn’t take his advice, now how do I get him to test my b12?

Look forward to hearing your advice

Easiest/cheapest is via private testing

List of private testing options

When testing B12 test folate too

Options just to test Folate and B12 probably available via these private companies

Obviously many members get thyroid and vitamin levels tested together

Thank you that is very helpful.

No I don’t take any B vitamins I do add natural yeast to meals occasionally.

It was a herbalist that put me on AIP and the list of vitamins I take. Unfortunately due to family commitments and covid I haven’t made much effort to contact her.

She did organise a Genova test thyroid plus for me this was in August 2018. They tested central thyroid regulation and activity, peripheral thyroid function and thyroid auto immunity.

Thank you again

Suggest it might be worth retesting thyroid and vitamin levels using one of the popular thyroid testing options

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Are you currently taking any T3?

If yes. Last 1/3 of daily dose should be roughly 8-12 hours before test

Stop taking any supplements that contain biotin a week before ALL BLOOD TESTS

If testing ferritin levels, stop iron supplements a week before testing (also avoid red meat before test)

I have looked into the websites I am thinking I will probably get thyroid premium gold from blue horizon or advance thyroid test from thrva. I have just this minute contacted my doctors for a print out of my latest blood results.

I am on 100mg Levothyroxine I take this in the morning then I drink pink himalayan salt water. I leave 4 hours in before taking (Floravita) liquid iron this contains vitamin c,b1,b2,b6,b12 and iron, fish oil (Cytoplan) and probiotics If I am honest I having been great at remembering to take them. I take Levothyroxine every morning.

my doctor suggested I stopped taking the zinc as he felt my conversion was working well on its own.

Suggest you wait until Thursday to see if Medichecks have their test on offer at £59 (thyroid Thursday)

They usually have one thyroid test on offer every Thursday

If you suspect adrenal issues, perhaps worth paying extra for Blue horizon as includes a cortisol test

That is great to know thank you.It was the cortisol test that caught my eye. This home school is stressful, I am grateful for the life my husband and I have created together and I don't need to work. My thoughts do go to the families with very little support.
