High FT3 advice

Hi,

My latest medi checks results below. I’m non medicated with no official diagnosis. Have two thyroid nodules (advised non suspicious). Ongoing symptoms since Nov ‘19 which fluctuate. Have been having particularly bad spell since mid January. Annoyed that I couldn’t get bloods taken at the worst point but I struggled to get phlebotomist in lockdown (unable to use finger prick). TPO antibodies seem to remain slightly elevated but reduced from where they were. I’m receptor antibody negative.

The Medichecks GP says slightly elevated FT3 is nothing to be concerned with. I have had some symptoms of hyperthyroidism recently - have been very anxious and had palpitations on and off. My weight is down. I had a virus in Jan which GP now thinks might have been Covid so has put all recent symptoms down to that.

Vitamin and iron wise I am working with a nutritionist since Dec. I’m now taking Floravital liquid iron. This is approved by my GP based on a FBC and is being monitored by my nutritionist. This seems to be improving my feet tingling.

My question really is if I should pay any attention to the FT3 result below and what it might mean?

CRP HS 0.26 mg/L (<5)

Ferritin 37 ug/L (13-150)

Folate (serum) 10.34 ug/L (>3.89)

Vit B12 active 141 pmol/L (>37.5)

Vit D 90.2 nmol/L (50-175)

TSH 0.69 mIU/L (0.27-4.2)

Free T3 7.06 pmol/L (3.1-6.8)

Free thyroxine 15.6pmol/L (12-22)

Thyroglobulin antibodies 18.2 KIU/l (<115)

Thyroid peroxidase antibodies 39.2 KIU/l (<34)

Many thanks in advance

Slightly raised TPO antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s

Hashimoto’s frequently starts with transient hyperthyroid results and symptoms before becoming increasingly hypothyroid

You might want to consider trialing strictly gluten free diet

But get coeliac blood test done first

Thank you SlowDragon - this confirms what I’ve been assuming for a while. I think Seaside Susie has said in the past it could be Hashimotos too. I’m now gluten (celiac blood test was negative) and dairy free and looking at other food sensitivities with nutritionist. Trying my best with diet and lifestyle changes. I’m so highly symptomatic and my thyroid feels sore and swollen after this last virus/episode. I was due to see thyroid surgeon next month but it’s been moved to a phone consult due to lockdown. Thanks again, genuinely appreciated.
