I have just booked to have my first dose of vaccination on Friday this week. I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried about side effects as I have had no definite diagnosis of Hashimoto's but know that my antibodies were at 1137 in 2007 so my endocrinologist says that certainly points to Hashimoto's and I am due to have an x-ray on Monday next week with my GP querying sacroilitis which is linked with ankylosing spondylitis which is also an autoimmune condition. All this potential inflammation in my body is a cause for great concern about a bad reaction to the vaccine. As a person who has borderline personality disorder and who overthinks everything and worries about everything little thing, I also worry that being stressed can produce a bad reaction to the vaccine.
Any advice or reassurance would be very helpful.

Vaccines are highly specific and not related to autoimmune conditions. Some people might feel tired after a vaccination or get a slightly sore arm, I had neither. It's quite likely you've had dozens of vaccinations in the past, this is just one more.
Thanks for reply, yes have had vaccines in past and most recently the flu jab in November but what worries me is that my immune system will seriously overreact to the vaccine as autoimmune conditions make your immune system attack your own body ( as I'm sure you know) and have read an article which says if you are in a flare, should let it pass before having vaccine but I have no idea when I'm having a flare so that is worrying in itself.
Just thought I'd update you all. Had my first dose of vaccine yesterday afternoon and 24 hours on, no side effects except a sore arm,so as usual was blowing things out of proportion ( which I have no control over) due to my BPD. All good, thanks for all your support.
There are many people having serious side effects particularly those of us with heart arrhythmias, lots on the heart forums have gone into AF and some had to be admitted to hospital due to side effects. I'm seriously wondering if it's worth the risk !
I know I'm just saying cardiac side effects are now proving to be common, something not previously known. I have both heart and autoimmune problems so I have to weigh up the risks.
From my limited knowledge on the subject people with AF are at higher mortality risk if they catch COVID-19 and for this reason they are prioritised for vaccination. There are relatively very few people with serious side effects as verified by studies. Of course, anxiety will contribute to perceived side effects or even trigger some. It’s important to look at real data as forum posts can be biased or consist of ‘Chinese whispers’ that get passed on with increasing inaccuracy.
The basic question is whether you will be safer with or without vaccination, given the virus is likely to be around for at least a few years. I can understand initial apprehension but there have now been tens of millions of vaccinations.
Although there are quite a few people saying they did feel poorly afterwards for a few days, it is encouraging to note that , at the time of my writing this comment, the stats suggest by far the majority of people have not had a difficult time following the injection.
Out of 220 people that have 'voted' so far, only 33 have reported unexpected symptoms (That's about 14%). So hopefully you'll be fine 🤞🙂
Thanks for all replies, unfortunately if there is likely to be an overreaction to the vaccine then it's likely to be me overreacting and overthinking the whole thing. Having BPD is a serious curse on your life and I wish there was some miracle cure but only specialist psychotherapy which when mine starts at back end of this year,I'll have been waiting 4 years for.Sorry about that just venting.
It's understandable to feel nervous. Can you tell yourself that you'll be absolutely fine; that millions of people have had it now; that both the infection rate and death rate are dropping hard since the vaccine was introduced; and soon we'll be out of this miserable lock-down and seeing our friends again.
Tell yourself this often, Be kind to yourself. Positive thinking can really work
I have hashis and other auto immune stuff. I had the Pfizer 2 weeks ago and not one side effect ( that was big enough to be noticed over the “usual” lol) my husband , fit , had AstraZeneca and was limp and flu like for a couple of days. I don’t take the normal flu vaccine as had nasty response in past. I balanced out the risk . I work for NHS so was clear from start I would accept offer of vaccine .
You really do not want to get covid because I am recovering from it at the moment. Everything I try to eat tastes horrible and my legs ache all the time I wish I could have had the jab but it was not my time as I am 61. I just hope I don’t have long covid 😟
