Antibody advice

Hi, I was diagnosed with a multi nodular goitre about 18months ago - 3 nodules between 2.5 and 3.5 cm - FNA was benign. I had many Hypo symptoms however bloods were always normal. I only had TSH, T4 and Vit D completed - VIT D low T4 was 29% through range in October 2019 and 32% through range February 2020. Antibodies were TPO <9 and Thyroglobulin 46.6. The GP just wasn't interested. Someone suggested a Gluten Free Diet - which I have been on for several months and I do feel better (only the occasional bad day now). I then decided to get a private test done (appreciate I should have done this before) - now my T4 has jumped up to 62% of range and T3 is 4.7 (range 3.1 - 6.8). On Vit D supplements now so that wasn't checked. However I have noted that my antibodies are rising slightly - TPO 14.1 (range <34) and Thyroglobulin 54.9 (<115) - so all still normal. Just wondered if this is significant or not..... not on any medication. Should say there is a family history - both my gran (maternal) and maternal cousins have Hashi

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

How low was vitamin D

How much vitamin D are you currently taking?

Are you also supplementing magnesium and vitamin K2

Need to retest vitamin D twice yearly when on supplements

vitamindtest.org.uk

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins

List of private testing options

Medichecks Thyroid plus vitamins including folate (private blood draw required)

Thriva Thyroid plus antibodies and vitamins By DIY fingerpick test

Thriva also offer just vitamin testing

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes antibodies, cortisol and vitamins by DIY fingerprick test

If you can get GP to test vitamins and antibodies then cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off if go on thyroid uk for code

Thanks Slow Dragon

The test was done via finger prick at 9am before eating and drinking and sent to Medichecks.

My Vit.D previously was 18 (range 20 - 50) - I'm currently taking 4,000iu daily for several months now - no other supplements.

Ferritin and B12 were normal - although no results/ranges given.
