Is Dr Peatfield still practising?

Hello everyone,

I have been reading wonderful things about Dr Peatfield and am really desperate to see him. I saw that he has had some health issues and was just wondering if anyone knows whether he is ok? I have tried his office number but it just rings out. Thank you!

Email Dionne at Thyroid Uk for list of recommended thyroid specialists

Before seeing any thyroid specialist we recommend getting full Thyroid and vitamin testing

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw). This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

If/when also on T3, make sure to take last dose 8-12 hours prior to test

Is this how you do your tests? A

Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random

Do you have Hashimoto's?

If you add your most recent results and ranges on blood tests members can advise on next steps

Thank you so much, I don't have Hashimoto's but have had CFS/ME for 11 years and the only thing that ever helped me (it totally cured me, amazingly), was armour thyroid prescribed by an incredible doctor called Doctor Sherwood. I met him when he was already over 90 I think, and really sadly he passed away. Since then I have been unable to find another doctor who will even believe me that the armour thyroid worked, and have become more and more ill. I was doing some late night googling and stumbled upon your forum! I know I can buy it online, but I have had so many complications since then (it was 10 years ago), and was worried about administering anything by myself in case I make myself worse!

Suggest you get full Thyroid and vitamin testing via Medichecks or Blue Horizon or Thriva....see where your levels are, as first step

I can't tell you if he is back at work since his bout of ill health, but he is 82 yrs old now, I believe, so may not be.

in reply to MaisieGray

Please, may I ask, in the nicest possible way, what has his age got to do with it?

He IS, one of the BEST thyroid doctors on the planet.

He is a lovely doctor and I think he will keep going as long as his body allows him to. But I think MaisieGray is just pointing out, because Freemek is a new member and may not be aware, that he has had a lot of ill health over the last few years, with many hospitalisations, and because of his age he may not be able to continue, however much he would like to. He has already cut down his clinics and now no longer travels and only sees patients at his main clinic in Crawley (I believe).

He is an amazing doctor, I owe so much to him, & I am aware Freemek is a new member. I have been aware of Dr Petfields ill health since he became ill. Freemek was aware of his ill health as it was mentioned in the post.

No. He is about 85 years old now and retired 2 or 3 years ago, he has been in poor health for some time. Unfortunately there is no-one like him.

You don't consider there's a possibility that the fact of being an octogenarian may impact on someone's recovery from a bout of ill heath?

I made no reference, implied or otherwise, to his professional competence.

Thank you so much MaisieGray. Poor him, I hope he feels better soon

He was still working quite recently, but not every day of the week. I'd keep trying the number until you have tried at say late morning every day of the week. If he's working his secretary will be there to take your call.

Thank you so much, I will!

Friday is the day he is close to a phone. He is no longer driving, so any consultations are held in Crawley.

He's an amazing man. Still going. I think he's a lot older than 82 now. I'm sure he was about that when I last saw him and that was quite a few years ago. He has such a nice manner about him.

He was reported as being 64 yrs old in a BBC article of May 2001, hence my saying 82 yrs old currently. Elsewhere I've seen him reported as being born in 1936 making him 83 yrs old.

I've been trying to get Dr Peatfield as had an appt with him just after he was taken ill (which he couldn't keep because of his ill health). The message on his phone now says that the number doesn't exist! So don't really know if that means he's not working any more.

I know I have had the same message, saying the number is invalid. I really hope he is ok and that maybe its just because he's been out of the office for so long or something - I dont know. I was thinking of asking if anyone (via private message of course) would recommend anyone similar to Dr Peatfield, especially with respect to adrenal fatigue and CFS/ME, but he seems so wonderful I can't imagine there is anyone comparable!

It sounds as tho you're in a similar position to me. He was treating me for Sheehans, ME/CFS and adrenal fatigue. I had just had latest bloods taken in the hope of him upping my thyroid meds, but with adrenal fatigue as well I don't want to do it myself. Im wondering now who else I could see too. It doesn't seem good to me that his phone number doesn't exist any more. A couple of weeks ago the message said that he was recovering from an operation and would let people know when he was working again.
