Hi James. I’ve been reading Izabella Wentz the thyroid pharmacist. She has a lot of information about how to eat to support your body with hypothyroidism. She has Hashimoto’s (I don’t) but I’ve been trying some of her recipes and I feel enormously better! She mentions different types of proteins: pea and hemp protein (also beef protein). Hope that helps you!
I don’t train but I have hypothyroidism, live on a meat free diet and have weak tissue so I get my protein, b vitamins, creatine, omega fatty acids and d vitamins from organic turkey bone broth, seaweed, fish or algae oil, jack fruit, lentils, nuts, eggs, seeds, quinoa and beans. I generally just include those in my regular diet but I imagine you could make a protein shake with them. hope that’s helpful.
Getting enough protein is key. I agree that eggs are a great source but there are others.
I really like the Whey protein isolate powders by Jay Robb. No soy, non-gmo, no gluten, no added sugar (a serving is either 0 sugar or less than 1 gm depending upon flavor), nothing artificial, lactose free, rBGH-free, easy to mix).
Chocolate is my favorite but I also like the unflavored as well. I make a smoothie with the powder (small banana, unsweetened almond milk, chia seeds, golden ground flaxseed, chocolate powder). Super yummy and 25g protein from the powder alone!
I also like the unflavored grass-fed, pasture-raised Collagen Protein powder from Amy Myers. Gluten-free, non-GMO, kosher, non-dairy. 11 gms of protein per serving. I dissolve a scoop into a hot mug of bone broth along with sea salt and turmeric. Delicious.
I have found the brand Two Good Greek Low-fat yogurt to be exceptional. I like the plain kind which only has 2 gms of sugar per serving (3/4 cup) along with 14 gms protein. I love to put this yogurt on top of a mix of fresh fruit (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and mandarin oranges) with a sprinkle of chia seeds, ground golden flax, GF granola and a drizzle of pure maple syrup. Yummy and fills me up.
Sardines are also a great source of protein. I love sardines in mustard sauce by Beach Cliff (with some GF crackers). At 17 gms protein and 140 cals per serving it’s a great Low calorie, protein rich meal.
