Apart from having Hashimoto, I am also pre-diabetic.
Due to my above conditions, I am unsure what food items I can eat and what I can't. I am a vegetarian (no fish or eggs).
Yogurt: I re-started dairy since last few months (low carb high protein yogurt or low fat/natural cottage cheese, or, Icelandic yogurt) to seek more protein. I am not having any digestion, bloating, or diarrhoea issues.
I also read somewhere in this forum some alternatives to yogurt are available but unsure what they are. I can see Alpro brand yogurt (made from soya) in the supermarket which I understand is not good for Hashimoto.
Peanut/almond butter: I love having peanut butter or almond butter in yogurt as it got good protein but I am unsure whether it is bad with Hashimoto, and I should stop eating peanut butter?
Tofu: I enjoy eating as it got high level of protein but I understand from the forum since this is made from soya it's best to avoid to Hashimoto, is my understanding correct?

You need FULL thyroid and vitamin testing to see where levels are now
Likely ready to increase Levo to 75mcg after get tested
As vegetarian highly likely to have low iron/ferritin
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease
Lower vitamin levels more common as we get older
For good conversion of Ft4 (levothyroxine) to Ft3 (active hormone) we must maintain GOOD vitamin levels
What vitamin supplements are you taking
Also VERY important to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
"What vitamin supplements are you taking" - I am taking every day B12 1000ug Sublingual, Zinc 22mg and VitD 1000 IU (as D3 1000IU) . I used to take multi vitamins and minerals but it contained iron so GP said stop or use vitamins without having iron in it.
In the past I also used to take Ashwagandha and Gilloy (Indian herbal immunity booster) but stopped take then once Hashi was detected.
This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.
Post discussing just how long it can take to raise low ferritin
when taking B12 it’s recommended on here to also supplement vitamin B complex
Test first before starting B complex if not taking already
With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement
A week later add a separate vitamin B Complex
Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.
If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week
Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12
