Still having problems with levo...looking at absorption probs...what syptoms would I have with a leaky gut and/or celiac..blood tests nearly always perfect but syptoms persist. Jelly legs. Sore eyes and vision problems.dizziness. weakness..Gp and Endo tried everything from changing brands to dosage to liquid levo and even tried trial of T3 ...so thinking it is something else at play here...some days feel normal though weak muscle abd aches!!.others dreadful but when I drink lots water or eat something symptoms seem to be less for a while!!!

Had blood tests for everything all ok. Supplimenting Vit D3. VitA. B12 and Iron. TSH was 4.2 at last reading so taking 75/100mic levo alternate days to bring it down but still feel as though I lose all energy at lunch time and lie down then ok for a few hours and get it again at 4pm before eating then after eating its ok again...checked for diabetes...negative...endo tried to tell me it was in my head!!! Told him what I thought about his opinion and he has delisted me saying he is perplexed!! In other words there is the bin go and get in it!!! So I am taking control myself with my GP' help.. who needs Endo's...any ideas would be gratefully accepted on what next...regards...

With a TSH of over 4, you are still hypo. And, alternating 75/100 is not going to bring it down far enough. You should be on 100 every day for six weeks, then retest and increase by another 25 mcg.

But, even so, it's not about the TSH. It's about the thyroid hormones - TSH is a pituitary hormone, and not very reliable for assessing thyroid status. If that is all that your doctor is testing, then he knows nothing about thyroid. No mystery about that!

You are still hypo, and that's why you don't feel well.

Thank you Grey goose...god almighty...they have been testing just TSH all along for four years!!!!...neither wonder I feel like a zombie...they should have been testing t3 and t4 as well!!!and seeing how I felt shouldnt they!!!I am going to self medicate to 100mic every day and blood test after six weeks...then see...where should Tsh be then!?so as I will know whether I need another 25mic!, Or does it depend on how well feel??!!so glad we have each other on here because docs know sweet b...all and Endo's even less...and are all groping in the dark...mine admits he gets his information from Thyroid Uk mag /website which I give him and by watching what happens to me !!! The game is over and I want my life back and if I have to self med to get it I will..no black bin for me yet awhile@!@thanks again..will let you know how it goes after six weeks will get copies of bloods etc and post them...

Regards

It does very much depend how you feel. But, most people won't feel well until their TSH is 1 or under - sometimes suppressed - and FT4/3 in the upper third of the range.

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase

Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine ?

Many people find different brands are not interchangeable

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also EXTREMELY important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if you have autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto's) diagnosed by raised Thyroid antibodies

Ask GP to test vitamin levels (and antibodies if not been tested yet)

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Is this how you do your tests?

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or thyroid antibodies or all relevant vitamins
