Latest bloods - good?

Afternoon all,

I've just received my latest Medichecks results and I'm feeling positive about them for the first time in 18 months. However, I would appreciate someone more knowledgeable casting their eyes over them for me just in case I'm missing something.

TSH = 0.289

FT4 = 69%

FT3 = 51.3%

Current meds & supplements:

Levothyroxine 100mcg (since 1st May, 75mcg since 25th Feb, 50mcg for 4 months prior to that).

Folic acid (5mg), BetterYou D3 spray (3,000iu), BetterYou B12 spray with a topical Magnesium spray, and a Vitamin C powder.

I had a celiac test which was negative but on the advice of this group, I have been GF for the last 8 weeks to hopefully help improve my Thyroid Antibodies.

Think that is it in terms of background but any comments are more than welcome.

Thanks, H

How do you feel?

Your latest thyroid results are looking a lot better.

As you are taking D3, are you taking Vit K2 as well?

As you are taking B12, are you taking a B Complex as well to balance all the B vitamins?

Folate

I would just point out that you have the wrong symbol in the range. It should be >3.89 not <3.89

Your folate level is now good, Medichecks range is 3.89-19.45 so you are now over range. Unless there is a specific need for you to take 5mg folic acid (is it prescribed), you should now be able to maintain a decent folate level by using a good quality, bioavailable B Complex such as Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B.

Hi,

I'm feeling ok at the moment. I have just started getting outside for a walk in the last couple of weeks as I had been doing no exercise before that so I don't know if that's also helping with my energy levels, along with cutting out bread and sugar! Also, the better weather is definitely helping as I always feel more energised and upbeat when it's warm and sunny.

In terms of your questions on supplements, I'm not taking K2 at the moment. Would I be better switching to the BetterYou D+K2, rather than what I am currently doing with Vit D spray and Magnesium oil spray?

I'm not taking any B Complex...is there a recommended strength if I was to add this to the B12 spray that i use?

I am prescribed the 5mg Folic as a precaution as i want to TTC once my thyroid and vits are under control.

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and Vit K2-mk7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissue where it can be deposited and cause problems. So you could either use the combined D3/K2 spray or use a separate K2-mk7 supplement. K2 is fat soluble so if you buy a separate supplement that is swallowed with water (eg capsules) then it needs to be taken with some dietary fat. You will continue to need the magnum as this helps the body convert D3 into it's usable form.

When taking B12 we need a B Complex to balance all the B vitamins. However, your Active B12 is at a good level and you would very likely maintain this level now with just a B Complex containing g methylcobalamin rather than co tinuing to need a separate B12. Good brands are Thorne Basic B or Igennus Super B.

Perfect, I’ll take a look at those when I next order my supplements. Thanks!

I have been GF for the last 8 weeks to hopefully help improve my Thyroid Antibodies.

Does gluten-free make you feel any better?

I would just say that there's no proof that GF reduces antibodies, but even if you managed to get rid of them completely, you would still have Hashi's - that doesn't go away ever. So, if GF doesn't make you feel better after 3 to 4 months, then there's really not much point.

Hi,

I can honestly say that I don’t think it has made much difference in the way I’m feeling but I’m going to continue for a little while longer as it’s only been 2 months. Then, if I reintroduce some gluten I might be able to notice a difference at that point. I don’t suffer from any IBS type symptoms so if it’s not improving the energy levels then it’s pointless trying to be strictly GF.

Tbh, I think longer term, I might just reduce the amount of gluten that I’m eating for diet/weight loss reasons rather than because of my thyroid but we’ll see how the next couple of months go.

Regards

Well, thyroid and weigh-loss/gain are related. :)

Definitely need some of that weight loss now that my levels have improved. Fingers crossed it gives me the energy and focus to achieve it - 8lbs off this month...but a long way to go 🙈
