New blood results from Thriva.

I have had an increase in weight of 4kg, from 60kg to 64kg, during a period of 2 months. I am struggling to lose weight.

I decided to have my blood tested to see if my thyroid is being properly managed. I have had an increase in weight and have constant fatigue. Can someone help me decipher the results and decide whether I should go up or down on my Levothyroxine?

Medication: 75mg of Levothyroxine Wockhardt brand. HRT spray and Testosterone cream. Humira injection and Steroid eye drops.

Vitamins: BetterYou Vitamin D3000 +K2 spray, BetterYou Vitamin B12 1,200 ug spray, BetterYou Multivitamin spray and Cod Liver Oil capsules.

Vitamin D 88.6 (50.0 - 250.0)

Total Vitamin D level > 250.0 nmol/L Total 25(OH). Vitamin D 25 nmol/L is deficient. Total of 25 (OH)D > 50 nmol/L is sufficient in most individuals. Please note the change of reference range October 2022.

HbA1c 36.0 (20.0 - 48.0 mMol/Mol)

Triiodothyronine (FT3) 4.2 (3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L)

Free thyroxine (FT4) 16.0 (12.0 - 22.0 pmol/L)

You need to increase your dose as your fT4 is too low, I'd suggest adding 25mcg per day perhaps splitting am/pm to smooth the transition 🤗 if you find dose changes a struggle then go to 82.5mcg for a bit first

Any idea where your folate and ferritin are?

100mcg should be about right for your weight... and an extra squirt of Vit D to get it over 100 would be good

Thank you, Eeyore. I will increase Levo and vitamin D.

My last bloods for Ferritin and Folate were done in April, sorry I can't find the range for these, Thriva have changed the report.

Ferritin 81 ug/L

Folate 7.17 nmol/L

Hmm... don't know the Thriva range for either... ferritin likely ok but folate possibly on the low side generally looking to be at least in double figures? Is there much in the multivit spray?

Hmm... not the best thing for you to take as it contains Iodine 😕

And folic rather than folate

I'd suggest binning ( or pass it on to someone that isn't hypo) and getting either Igennus Super B Complex or Thorne Basic B

We do recommend taking a B complex to help balance all the B's, this would contain folate. I will list some that you can choose from that are high in dose and contain the active form of vitamins that bodies find easier to use.

You need next 25mcg dose increase to 100mcg

Thanks Slowdragon. I am on a gluten free diet and I have reduced my fat and sugar intake.

Will take a look at the folate link. 👍🏼

Grey Goose would say not to reduce fat intake but don't use seed oils like sunflower or corn. Butter, lard, and olive oil and whatever fat is in the meat and fish. Stop the sugar, that's for sure. It's not a nutrient and just empty calories.

Thank you gabkad. My diet has always had olive oil and real butter. So glad to hear I can keep these in and get rid of any other fats. I have a sweet tooth so am trying to find alternative and healthy substitutes to sugar.

I don't know if it's actually true, but some claim that a sweet tooth is the result of some sort of deficiency. No idea what that could be to be honest.

From the Thorne website:

While that's not entirely wrong – like sometimes in the case of salty foods and a sodium deficiency – the craving for sweet, sugary foods might be explained by specific mineral imbalances in the body. Calcium, zinc, chromium, and magnesium imbalances can also manifest themselves as sugar cravings.

I knew an ICU nurse who had coeliac disease but didn't know it. She would eat sugar right out of the bowl. As we know coeliac disease causes all sorts of deficiencies due to damage of the small intestine lining.
