Iron advice please

Good morning

Pls could some kind soul take a look at these results from medichecks?

Iron - 10.3 (5.8-34.5)

TIBC - 57.33 (45-72)

UIBC - 47.2 (24.2-70.1)

Trans Ferritin Sat 17.67 (20-50)

Ferritin -26.1 (13-150)

I am on 100 mcg T4 and 12.5 T3. Not had a blood test very recently, but this does tends to keep my TSH at Zero, T4 upper range and T3 mid. Folate and B12 both above mid range. Last Vit D was 88. I did get it up to 100, but clearly didn’t take enough to keep it there so have increased dose.

Do most tests myself as GP not particularly willing. Will test Vit D again next month.

Since getting iron results back, I have read and read - some great info. I have started taking Floradix - have noticed a difference in a week. It’s fatigue I suffer with mainly. Plus poor recovery after exercise. The other symptoms don’t jump out at me.

I have ordered Ferrograd C and then read mixed reviews on here. Then I read a great paper by Hellvella (I think) talking about Ferrtin from iherb. That gets great reviews. I am minded to order that.

I am no millionaire, but I do have resource to buy something decent and don’t mind experimenting.

And advice, good people, would be extremely welcome! And happy to read, research, experiment, if someone can give me some pointers!!

Thank you!!!

Optimal iron panel results, accordin to web.archive.org/web/2018083... are

Serum iron: 55 to 70% of the range, higher end for men - yours is 15.68% through range so is low.

Saturation: optimal is 35 to 45%, higher end for men - yours is 17.67% so is low.

TIBC: Low in range indicates lack of capacity for additional iron, High in range indicates body's need for supplemental iron - yours is 45.67% through range so almost mid-range.

UIBC: Low in range indicates that you may have too much iron in your blood which may be due to iron overload syndrome (hereditary haemochromatosis). High in range signifies iron deficiency - yours is 50.11% through range, so nicely mid-range.

Ferritin: Low level virtually always indicates need for iron supplementation - yours is 9.56% through range so is low.

Your serum iron, saturation and ferritin could suggest iron deficiency. You should also have a full blood count to see if you have anaemia.

I wouldn't recommend self supplementing with any iron supplement with these results, I would discuss them with your GP and ask for further testing.
