Marz recently posted a great article on vitamin D, and following on, I've just listened to this interview with Dr Shelton in New Zealand regarding the importance of vitamin D, for us, and our four legged companions. youtube.com/watch?v=JVg8opQ...

I've re-posted the link with the hopes that it will now open. Dr Sheldon was saying that you make your vitamin D, weather permitting, halfway to sunburn. He also says, not to use soap on the large surface areas for 24 hours after sunning yourself because it washes the vitamin D off the skin. They tested this in Florida where they found a lot of people deficient.

Apparently we can make 20,000 units in the sunning time, but it can take up to 24 hours for it to get into the bloodstream.

He also thinks that lack of vitamin D is guilty of our indoor 4-legged companions getting cancer. When they are outdoors, they soak up vitamin D, and lick their coats, which aid absorption.

I've explained it rather clumsily, but I thought once you'd had your sun intake, the vitamin was locked in to be used up. Apologies, if I'm reiterating info that people already know :)

Thank you ! Always good to be reminded ! I have been a D fan since discovering I tested insufficient after a couple of years of living in Crete .. some of us have problems metabolizing VitD and I have had conditions linked to low D ... Statin users risk low levels due to blocking the action of the sun on the skin - sigh ! 🌻🌻

Thank you Marz. I began taking it on advise of Dr Myhill but then I found that I was over the top end of the range, but I've begun again, and the more I learn the more strict I will be with my supplement regime.

I hope you've become acclimatised to being back in the UK, although I'm sure there is so much you will miss. :)

Yes I miss my daily swim ! Do you test your VitD to check your level ? It's suggested you dose according to your level ... 😷

Oh I bet! So if my level was high up on the scale to begin with, I would easily push it up and over range by dosing 50.000 iu/g once a week. I did a Blue Horizon test last week, and I'm looking forward to the results.

Forgot to mention! I think you mentioned Tom O'Bryan, and so I bought his book today, so here goes! ;)

Low vitamin D and low B vitamins may be linked as explained here

drgominak.com/sleep/vitamin...

In YouTube video when Dr Gominak talks about vitamin D levels ...vitamin D at 40ng/ml (USA units) is equal to 100nmol (UK units)

Thank you, I was unaware of the connection. I began to watch before replying, but it's long, so I'll watch this evening. Interesting to know the connection, but also how it can affect sleep!

I am new to this site and only joined yesterday. Having found this today I am so glad I came here. So informative as my 89 year old mother has had severe pain in both shoulders and arms for 3 years and her doctors can't decide if it's arthritis or something else. They tell her to take paracetamol! She seldom leaves the house and doesn't eat particularly well. She has never been tested for Vitamin D or B deficiency or her cortisol levels , and from what I've heard here, I think its time to get this done. Thank you
