Hi. I am post surgery for total thyroidectomy for 7 years and have been great but have recently had rhe feeling of pressure on my throat where my scar is. My script was changed to Aristo thyroxine and I'm not sure if its this. Picking up a new script tomorrow and have asked for the pharmacy not to give me Aristo to see if my symptoms change. I've been doing massage of the area and exercises but its getting very annoying as it feels like a choking sensation. Anyone any ideas what it could be or should I persevere with exercises? Thanks
No thyroid - pressure on throat: Hi. I am post... - Thyroid UK
No thyroid - pressure on throat
Different brands of thyroid medication can affect people differently so its a good idea to ask for the brand you normally have. However I think you should tell your GP about the choking feeling and get it checked out.
Always get same brand of levothyroxine
Aristo is new brand and lactose free....likely the cause
Ask GP to test thyroid and vitamin levels
What did you have your thyroid removed for? Do you have any latest lab results with ranges?
I had thyroidectomy and occasionally my neck muscles choke me and the massage hasn’t helped but, Magnesium has.
I know it seems like a stupid question but have you changed anything recently? Different exercises? If you're female, different type of bra? Sometimes adhesions from the scar might pull or tighten due to clothing or other reasons. Definitely check it out with doctor.
I had my thyroid removed 5 years ago due to thyroid cancer and I find at times of stress I feel pressure on my throat, around scar. Recently I also found some eye drops affected my throat and voice. Stopped eye drops and after a few days symptoms gone.
