I have been receiving B12 injections every 3 months for the last year, I am now informed due to the current situation re coronavirus , my doctor has suspended them and recommended I take B12 tablets 1 mg a day, looking for recommendations , very wary about buying supplements off the internet

Thanks in advance

Do you have PA ? In which case it maybe worth looking at the PAS website where you will find advice ... PA is for life as are the injections ...

I strongly recommend and urge you to go to the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum. This has been THE major topic for weeks. There is much discussion and advice.

(There are many perfectly good B12 tablets available. But if you need injections, tablets might well be wholly ineffective.)

I think this is a cunning plan to use the opportunity to move as many patients as possible off injections onto supplements

It’s ludicrous to say people can manage without regular B12 injection

For many supplements will not give same results

B12 tablets aren't anywhere near as effective as injections. The only other method I know of is using transdermal oils, which are purportedly on a par with injections. Not cheap, though.

Over on the Pernicious Anaemia Society forum, there have been many discussions about various topical approaches.

Most seem to do next to nothing. The B12 molecule, on its own, cannot get through the skin.

This product may be the exception, then. I can't speak for others. The scientist (biochemist) involved (Dr Greg Russell-Jones) has been researching for many years into B12 deficiency, dementia and autism and has spent half his career working on transdermal delivery systems and has a number of published papers. It's a water in oil emulsion, or that's my understanding of it, and it can enter via the skin.

I know many people who are using this for treatment and it is effective (again with the proviso that you have all your 'ducks in a row' before starting using the oil - there are a number of other nutrients that you need to be replete in are to be sure you can utilise B12 properly). I think pre and post lab results for B12 levels speak for the effectiveness.

There is now going to be a lot of this - moving patients off their usual meds to cheaper ones - I take a liquid lactose free product and wonder how long it will be before they ask if it is necessary. I'll say it is and I have the photos of what 'losing' the absorption of the hormone did to my face let alone the rest of the body - before I realised what the problem was.
