Hi everyone

My ferttin was 26 ug/L(range 23.-400.00 ug/L)

Folate was 2.8 ug/L)range 2.50 ug/L)

Vitamin B 12 310 ng/L) range 197.00-771.00 ng/L

As for the rest above I'm not sure if they are low or not it says normal no action needed on them all is this correct....I want to purchase some vitamin D today what's the best on the market

Thanks all

These are all too low. Only start one supplement at a time and wait 10-14 days before adding another

Starting with vitamin D

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7 (cheaper on amazon)

betteryou.com/vitamin-d-k2

GP will only prescribe to bring Vitamin D levels to 50nmol. But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol may be better

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/218...

vitamindsociety.org/pdf/Vit...

Once you Improve level, you will probably need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Ideally test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

It’s trial and error what dose we need, when on levothyroxine we frequently need higher dose than average

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

Government recommends everyone supplement October to April

gov.uk/government/news/phe-...

Two weeks later look at improving low B vitamin levels

B12 and folate are both low . Supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast

Igennus Super B complex are nice small tablets. (Cheap on Amazon) Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks

Or Thorne Basic B or jarrow B-right are other options that contain folate, but both are large capsules

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Ferritin is low, but iron is complicated. GP should do full iron panel test for anaemia to see if iron is also low

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

dailyiron.net

Links about iron and ferritin

All vitamins are low because you are still under treated and need further dose increase in levothyroxine

Thyroid level should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase in levothyroxine

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

Last dose of Levothyroxine 24 hours prior to blood test. (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)

Hi thanks slowDragon

I will buy my vit D from amazon but I will get the spray as I have real gut problems.. I have just received my app with the endo as my bloods are bad and I'm having real problems with levo but the app is not until June this year can't wait that long on the levo it's making my gut problem flare up to much I'm on the loo 3 / 4 times with loose bowels and pain😩 can't cope 😩😩😩

In light of such ridiculously long wait to see endo while so unwell, ask GP to prescribe liquid levothyroxine

List of different brands of liquid levothyroxine here

Thank for that info slowDragon I'm at docs on Tuesday next week will be asking about the liquid levo.. ❤️

Liquid levothyroxine is expensive...so they are always reluctant to prescribe liquid levothyroxine. But cheaper than adding T3, and easier to manage

Have you tried splitting your levothyroxine. Taking half dose when wake and half dose 12 hours later?

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking?

Hi

My lowest was 25mg..as I remember my gp wanted to take me off the levo for six weeks I posted that on here and was advised not to let him do that... I've gone from 25gm I'm on 75mg now and started with bad hyper symptoms especially my tremor and sweating fast heartbeat to I've also noticed I'm back to scratching I'm itchy with hives again.. Not to mention the bowel problems I've not had my anti body test done since 2018 and it wasn't even done after my total TT.. I feel the levo is just not working for me.. 😩

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking?

Obviously Teva brand upsets high % of people

Many people take Levothyroxine soon after waking, but it may be more effective taken at bedtime

verywellhealth.com/best-tim...

Many people find Levothyroxine brands are not interchangeable.

Once you find a brand that suits you, best to make sure to only get that one at each prescription. Watch out for brand change when dose is increased or at repeat prescription.

Many patients do NOT get on well with Teva brand of Levothyroxine. Though it is the only one for lactose intolerant patients. Teva is the only brand that makes 75mcg tablet. So if avoiding Teva for 75mcg dose ask for 25mcg to add to 50mcg or just extra 50mcg tablets to cut in half

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Teva poll

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

No other medication or supplements at same as Levothyroxine, leave at least 2 hour gap.

Some like calcium, magnesium, HRT, omeprazole or vitamin D should be four hours away

(Time gap doesn't apply to Vitamin D mouth spray)

My vitamin D test showed as 70) range(250H)

That isn't the range, 25OH is the name of the test.

Your GP will be satisfied with that level as it is in the "sufficient" category (i.e. over 50) but the Vit D Council recommends 125nmol/L and the Vit D Society recommends 100-150nmol/L.

As well as Vit K2-MK7 there is another important cofactor that is needed - magnesium.

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and Vit K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc.

D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds if taking D3 as tablets/capsules/softgels, no necessity if using an oral spray.

Magnesium helps D3 to work. We need Magnesium so that the body utilises D3, it's required to convert Vit D into it's active form. So it's important we ensure we take magnesium when supplementing with D3.

Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds if taking magnesium as tablets/capsules, no necessity if using topical forms of magnesium.

is it OK to take the cannabis oil with levo...

Sorry birkie I have no personal experience of that, but I'm sure greygoose has taken CBD oil and she takes T3 so she may have some input for you.

greygoose in reply tobirkie

Perfectly fine to take cannabis oil - although more complicated for someone taking medications/thyroid hormone/supplements, because you need to take it two hours away from everything, and four hours away from anything that reacts with grapefruit juice (cannabis oil will provoke the same reactions).

CBD oil is supposed to be taken 3 times a day, because the active ingredient only stays in the system for a couple of hours. However, I've never managed to do that, but found that even taking it once a day the benefits were enormous. Maybe they'd been even better if you could take it three times, but we can't have everything, can we. :)

True greygoose 😩 I don't eat grapefruit or any acidic fruit they react with my stomach and gut.. Really would try it for night time I take my levo at 6 in the morning so maby cud squeeze 2 in in one day.. 🙏

greygoose profile image
greygoose in reply tobirkie

You'd have to try it and see how it goes.

BTW, I wasn't saying that CBD oil reacts to grapefruit, I was talking about the drugs that react to grapefruit - they react with CBD oil in the same way as they do to grapefruit. :)

Doh!! ... I see what u mean. as u say I can only try it my meds don't seem to be doing much since my TT.. My sleep is all to pot to I'm totally exhausted 😩
