Hi all, looking to supplement my vit D as it's insufficient 45.1 and the GP will not treat. Any advice I was looking at 2000iu a day for 3 months, does anyone know where to get the best spray. Cheers in advance
Vit D : Hi all, looking to supplement my vit D as... - Thyroid UK
Vit D

As you are in the UK, presumably the unit of measurement is nmol/L?
If so you need to aim for the level recommended by the Vit D Council and the Vit D Society which is 100-150nmol.
For your current level you will need 5,000iu D3 daily then retest in 3 months.
Important to take D3's cofactors as well - magnesium which is need for the body to convert D3 into it's usable form, and Vit K2-mk7 which will direct the extra uptake of calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissue where it can be deposited and cause problems.
BetterYou oral spray is widely available if you use a search engine.
If you don't have Hashi's then a more budget friendly supplement is Doctor's Best oil based D3 softgels which is also a very clean supplement with just D3 and extra virgin olive oil, no excipients.
If using D3 softgels, take 4 hours away from thyroid meds. Same time gap for magnesium as far as thyroid meds are concerned.
Just thinking about D and Hashis, is the spray better than the pills?
AND WHY?🤔
It's said that the oral spray gives better absorption because it's absorbed through the mucous membranes in the oral cavity so bypasses the gut. Many Hashi's patients have absorption problems so this is supposed to be a better way of ensuring good absorption.
However, some Hashi's patients have had good results with oil based softgels.
There are also liquid drops which are taken sublingually.
Vit D tablets and capsules should be avoided. If you are going to take a supplement that you swallow with water and gets absorbed through the gut, then tablets and capsules have poor absorption, oil based softgels have the best absorption for that type of supplement.
