Hi everyone

My first time here...I have hypothyroid due to the fact they zapped it with too much iodine when I was hyper. They said at the time years ago now it was Graves Disease.

I take 125mg Levothyroxine daily

My query is that last week I had a blood test the results were back yesterday as I can see them on the patient choice app amongst other issues showing with my blood the Thyroid check shows my TSH level is 0.0...can anyone shed any light on this..

I imagine I will get a call from my GP tomorrow.

Hi Jaqx

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have your full blood results, and ranges please? (these vary from lab to lab). Your TSH is obviously suppressed, but it would be useful to see T3 and T4 - and if you have them, ferritin, folate, vit D and B12. If your doctor has only tested TSH or TSH and T4, it is worth asking for full testing - my GP did the lot when I said it was as recommended by Thyroid UK, but a lot of other people here have to pay for private blood testing.

Also, you should have your blood tests as early in the morning as possible (when your TSH is highest) - and 24 hours after taking your previous dose of levo.

Are you feeling well?

Hello pennyannie

Thank you for coming back to me..I only have the following.none of the others were tested...T4 is 23.1.....B12 is 2000

I have a B12 inj every 3 months.

This is all very helpful I did not know you could ask for these other tests not that I knew about them..it is so helpful.

I am not too well for the last couple of weeks hence the blood tests...

Thank you for your time it is very much appreciated.

Hi fuchia-pink

Thank you for coming back to me..

I only have the TSH which is 0

B12 is 2000...I have B12 injections every 3 months

and my T4 is 23.1

I didnt know all these other tests were available it has been most helpful

I have had a cold virus thing which always starts what appears to be by my thyroid gland that where it feels to be..hence the blood tests as this happened previously in November I am sure its just a run of the mill things there are lots of things going around..

Thank you so much for your time..it really is appreciated.

Hello Jaqx

With a diagnosis of Graves Disease and having been treated with RAI your TSH is the least important measurement and should not be why your medication is adjusted.

You need to be monitored and dosed on both your T3 and T4 blood test results and these usually need to be in the upper quadrant of the ranges to give you a level of wellness.

I am with Graves and had RAI way back in 2005 :

In order to be well my TSH is suppressed at 0.01 and that's fine with me.

I became very unwell some 6 years ago now because of being monitored and dosed to keep my TSH in range - please don't go down the same route.

As you have the ability to see your blood test results, please advise if you can see any results for T3. T4, ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D - these all need to be monitored and kept high in the range for any thyroid hormone replacement to work effectively.

There is one specialist Graves Disease website written by a lady who has this disease, and went through the same treatment option. Elaine Moore is a medical researcher and she seems to have made this auto immune disease, her life's work. The website is stateside so there is some differing medical ' jargon ' but the content stands, world wide. There is an open forum much like this amazing site and suggest you start reading up, as Graves seems to be a poorly understood and badly treated auto immune disease.

Please come back with any questions, and can I ask, how are you currently feeling ?

Hi

I only have B12 which is 2000.

I have B12 inj every 3 months

T4 is 23.1

That is all relating to my Thyroid..I did not realise there were so many other things to be checked to.

I will look up Elaine Moore thank you for that..I have never thought about looking into all this before..just went with the doctor.

I have not been well last 2 weeks think it is a cold virus which does actually feel as tho its my thyroid but cant be as they dont get colds..but that the area..hence the blood tests.

Thank you so much for your time it really is appreciated..

I think I sent my first attempt at a reply to someone else I do apologise trying to get used to it all.

Thank you again.

So, ok, with a T4 at 23.1 you maybe over the range, but as there is no standardisation between laboratories they all run on different numbers, so unless you can see a laboratory range for T4, I'm guessing what the number may be.

However again, a T4 number without a T3 number doesn't tell us very much, as it is the level of T3 that you convert from the T4 that gives your wellness.

I think it quite pointless guessing what your doctor may want to talk about, as we haven't sufficient information.

If you are free of hypothyroid symptoms, and well on the dose you current take, suggest you don't accept a dose reduction of Levothyroxine, purely for him/her to tick box you as being ok and being ' in range ' .

in reply topennyannie

Thank you.

I am well prepared with info and questions .

As you say not good to guess.. depending on what doc says I now know what blood tests I can ask for.

Thank you for you help.

Don't agree to dose reduction in levothyroxine without getting full thyroid and vitamin testing FIRST

Medichecks or Blue Horizon offer private testing

TSH, Ft3, Ft,4, folate, vitamin D and ferritin

All Thyroid tests should be as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking any thing apart from water. Last dose levo 24 hours prior to blood test

Come back with new post once you get results

Many thanks.

I had my levo at 6 that morning app was 11.20. did have a cuppa and brioche roll at 8.

No antibody test or T3 test done...

Was asked to reduce my levo from 125 to 100.

I am waiting for results for instrinsic antibodies not sure what that is for.. I am going to make an appointment to see Gp I would like as much info as possible to go with..

One thing I have picked up on no Ft3 done..ever as far as I can see...

my gp did say " the endocrinologist s these days will hesitate in prescribing T3 to people as the evidence for this treatment is actually really lacking ".

Thank you in advance for any info.
