Have recently discovered I have arthritis- at the moment worst in left hip. (Advised by orthopedic surgeon to consider hip replacement surgery)Also recent blood tests for rheumatism showed RA/RF test 19.6 IU/ml (0.0-15.0) Is this another auto-immune attack relating to Hashimotos I wonder?
Also I'm confused as to whether I have OA or RA- it's on one side(OA)
Ok in morning but worse later(OA)
But why is the RA test high? Could I have both? π
Another subject- I really don't want to start either steroid or methotrexate- Anyone had similar experiences and managed to control the progression with diet I wonder.... but looking at what you should avoid with hashimotos and arthritis there's not much left!!
I got too complacent with the auto immune thyroid situation and this latest development has given me a nasty shock!
Any feedback/advice will be greatly appreciated....

I am trying to cut out meat due to the arthritis. Obviously sugar and alcohol- have been eating rice and grains but probably the grains should be cut out for hashis
Recently cut out dairy also .
Also understand bell vegetables i.e. Tomatoes - potatoes- aubergines- peppers aren't great for arthritis flare ups.
I'm afraid I don't know much about arthritis, but for Hashi's, gluten-free etc. are just things to try, to see if they help. Not absolute no-nos. If gluten-free doesn't make you feel better, go back to eating it.
Why did you cut out dairy? Do you have a reaction to it?
Are you sure you need to cut out meat due to arthritis? Sounds like you're going to end up really nutritionally depleted. Do make sure to get your B12 tested.
I've recently cut out meat and dairy mainly because I believe that they are so highly contaminated.
I test B12 regularly and take better you oral spray 3 times a week at the moment
As for dairy the same reason - it's even more contaminated than meat I believe so I look for alternatives ( coconut or almond) of course if you start thinking about all food sources it's difficult to know what is safe to eat!
I'm thinking about trying vegan to see if it makes a difference to the hip pain....
Indeed! You'd end up not eating anything. Been there, done that. It doesn't help! All things in moderation, I think. Starving to death is not a solution.
But I would be interested to hear if any members with hashimotos have developed arthritis and if there is a clear connection ( my orthopedic surgeon suggested this)
You must have missed my posts - we left Crete last September and now live in Devon.
VitD would be better around 60++ and FT3 higher too .
Not sure Endos are the best for advice - I would ask here.
I have had bone spurs in various places which have disappeared over time with diet adjustments. Try reading The Brainmaker by Dr David Perlmutter - all about diet for the microbiome. Website in his name and you can sign up for his Newsletters ...
Bobbing in as I've had 'flares' the odd time since in my late thirties in wrists, ankles but it went away in a few weeks then I got groin pain which I believe is OA and Ive had hashi antibodies
.....for me, I think the gf has really helped but have had tests that show its wheat I'm not good with of course gf foods cover it, I'm ok supposedly with Durham wheat! Some Pasta is Durham
And lots of Vit c I've read is good deterrent for inflammations
I've never been tested for reactive foods- something else to think about. When first diagnosed with hashis 3-4 years ago I tried gluten free for a few months then re-introduced and to be honest felt no different.
Actually 10 years ago I had terrible pain in both knees - remember having cortisone injections in one .... that seemed to pass...
Maybe I had arthritis before hashis - who knows....
Lately I've been eating everything and forgetting my vitamins (used to take C )
Probably caused most of my current problems myself!!!!
Yes I notice how much better I feel with constant vits
When I've had therapies to relieve hip it's sometimes left me with much better hip but also a bit of knee discomfort so I'm thinking it's the compensation thing taking it all in hip!?
Have you some bone to bone?
I keep getting put off to push for new hip as physics say it isn't bad at
All!? And here on TUK they say to get euthroyd first asmany have no pain then?
Are you stiff on standing but ok when get walking? That's my scenario
The x-ray did show up many small cysts also which the orthopedic surgeon said were not a symptom of RA.
Also no- I am not stiff on standing then get better walking- I'm much better in the morning then as much as I walk and move the more likely I am to get this stabbing pain in the joint - it's not continuous pain- is this bone on bone?
I don't know sorry I'm still confused that I'm in agony on standing I can't put foot flat, then when I get walking I'm not in pain?π€·ββοΈ
I'd have thought if there is none to bone it would grate and be uncomfortable all the time, so it's confusing isn't it?
Told X-ray can show more ? I believe I have a tiny bone to bone which hasn't worsened in nine yrs but it's hard to live with as can't stand without the big awkwardness
I'm sure they maybe putting me off as they like you to wait till a certain age ?.........
I want to play football with grandson at seven not 17 lol
I had a HRT trial and it was all,so much better around the joint issue
To,do,with energy I expect
So this is why I've been told to wait until euthroyd
Sustain expensive but a pleasant drink and yes it really worked, the keniesiologist tested me over the ,moths and I started with 2 scoops twice a day and went to half a scoop once a day, and the nasty symptoms stopped
I believe it's the l gluitime in it that is the gut healer. Sorry about spelling
I so feel for you about your grandson- mine is 4 - every time he comes to play he says "nanny , does your leg hurt?"
I also have a granddaughter of 4 months and I can't hold her for so long now- it's not fair!! I'm going to fight this any way I can as I'm sure you are...
I'm also so confused- have appointment with the rheumatologist on Thursday and will let you know if I find out anything worth knowing....
In the meantime I'm back on gluten free and hitting the vitamins π π
And you I'm so sorry yes, well I broke wrist and it's weak still so same, I can hardly lift my little six month grandson out of cot
Yes do keep in touch please and yes, the vits, I'm sure it's all about the supplements to absorb,
And the michochondria for, sure π All about the gut. It really helps it the foundation. And maybe think of clearing any Candida, the system gets overloaded and shows up in so many ways
I'm hoping to embark in liver cleanse, understanding the clogging up is comprising system
I e just bought enzymes which support, I got the four enzymes together. Tummy, brain, arteries, unsure of last haha. So expemsive but it's our health
Keep going keep in touch,
Not looked up RA on it, but does Dr Sarah Myhill say anything, she's good lots of good advise there and she has online shop xx
Well after latest appointments it seems that I don't have rheumatoid arthritis but it's osteoarthritis-worse in the left hip joint.
The MRI scan left me confused and annoyed since I assumed it would be of the offending hip joint but actually it was made of the lower spine and lower hip.
My physiotherapist said that this was in order to rule out rheumatoid
Arthritis probably since it starts there... ? The rheumatologist neglected to enlighten me though.
The physio has really helped and loosened the joint considerably...
I was prescribed NSAID drugs if course which I have been taking but I will not renew the prescription.
Also I am taking Donaflex (glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate and bromelain) which I may continue-have to research this...
General opinion from docs is hip- replacement-but I am still living in hope!!
Have opened a whole new can of worms reading about lectins!!
Seems cutting out most of these plant proteins from diet has had incredible results with osteo and rheumatoid arthritis...
Also with Crohns and leaky gut
Any feedback on this latest diet trend from members????
