I should stick to this dose for 6 weeks and then test. Good that you can feel a difference and 2.5 grains is a good dose. I also take Thyroid S and take 1.50 then 1.75 then next two days but I think I took a little more when I first started. Post you results when tested if you want further advice.

I only needed to take 1 1/2 grains of Thyroid S and I never had hot flushes when taking it. It could be your body getting used to it or you could try reducing it by 1/4 of a grain and see if that makes a difference to the flushes. Everyone is different and it is trial and error with Thyroid S. You could always increase back up by 1/4 grain if you start to feel hypo. This is NDT and the T3 in it does leave your system quickly that is why you can adjust how much you take fairly quickly.

Hi lora7again yes i only been on this for little over 2 weeks but my body is used to taking ndts im guessing not all ndts are the same in strength..i was thinking maybe some pre menopause symptoms?i know i was pretty good on 2.5 grains on np thyroid but i took it sublingually

I think Thyroid S is quite powerful but it is the only NDT I have ever taken so I am comparing it to Levothyroxine. I have only ever had flushes when I was going through a hyper stage and I have had "Graves' Rage" which meant I would lose my temper at a drop of hat. My husband and son would avoid me when I was like that lol. As for menopause I did not go through it until I was 55 I take after my Grandmother she was still having periods at 59. She did look quite young for her age so that could have been the reason who knows.

Ive had a mean outburst here and there..i never was diagnosed graves or hashi i was hyper thyroid until they did rai then hypo..not sure how hypo i was think it was in the 20s i should actually try to find my tsh when first diagnosed. Ugh hormones do confusing i was pretty much feeling great and stable until np thyroid went bad now trying to work out the kinks again is discouraging

It has only been 2 weeks so give it time. I was only on Thyroid S for 6 months because I had a hyper stage and I did stop it cold turkey but I do still have a thyroid that works sometimes because of my multinodular goitre. It will be interesting to see what your blood results show and then you might get a better idea of what is going on. With NDT you go by how you feel, that is what I was told by another Thyroid group.

I’m on Thyroid-S and was pretty happy at 2.5 but then I went gluten free and must have somehow started healing as I sent myself fully into hyper land ! Are you getting bad headaches? I know I’m taking too much when my brain starts feeling crushed or I get nose bleeds. I also get anxious and emotional and have palpitations.

I’ve had to bring my dose down, 2 is slightly too high and 1.5 is too low. I’ve just gone to 1.75 but the headaches have started so I may alternate my days with 1.5 & 1.75. The one thing with this is it appears to be very sensitive and fast acting and like my fellow hashi’s have said you can tweak it quite easily. If you are struggling and really unwell I would trying coming down by 1/4 or 1/2 and see if you feel a bit better and it begins to ease

Hi mrs jones...yes i noticed very slight headaches here and there but nothing very bad..feeling alittle anxious here and there ..ill also get a few chills counting days to my lab work to see have you had labs done?are you optimal since you ssitch around dosage..wonder where headaches are coming from maybe fillers?or hyper

My hashi antibodies are down by going gluten free and just finding my new level at the moment but I certainly felt like that when I was over. Sounds like you may be only slightly over if it’s not too bad. I was bursting into tears when my husband and I were ready to go to a friends house one day and had no idea why, I just couldn’t go, I felt like a mad woman!! Haha I’m ok now since lowering my dose and my labs are much better

Thanks mrs jones so your optimal on ghw dose your on?i do burst into tears i feel like a crazy women.lol and try to stay away from otjers so they dont think im going mad.lol i guess i have to wait for the t3 to build up?im ised to getting fast direct t3 when i took my np thyroid sublingually i heard thyroid s is slow release not sure how true it is

That’s exactly what I was like!! It’s terrible you feel like you are going insane, but can’t really describe why to anybody.

I feel like Thyroid -S is quite fast, as I soon feel a difference by altering my dose, although it did take a good couple of weeks to kick in when I first started taking it. I think you could be taking too much from the symptoms you’ve described. I still go to my endo and check my levels and I try to follow the doses he says, but I instantly know if it’s too low or high and I will tweak it by 1/4 of a pill, even that amount can make a huge difference so perhaps just lower a little and see if you feel better. Six weeks is a long time to feel like that :(

Yes it is a long time.lol but im actually going on feb 8th so itll be 32 days on this dose i figure because i been on ndt for a long time just not this one..im curious of what my labs will say..but if it gets worse i will lower it by 1/4 need a good pill cutter ..did you switch from another ndt or levo?i have a doc but he wont raise my dose if i needed it becuase my tsh was supressed always has been but thts when im.feeling good i havent bothered with another endo which would be great to find one that listens

So tonight im going to lower my bed dose by 1/4th and see if i feel better still got chills, very emotional anxious..so hopefully this will help not sure whe re i should lower it i just picked bed dose because its easyier since i take 60mg at 11am 60mg 5pm and 30mg at bed (cutting by 1/4th.) So from 2.5 grains to 2.25 grains i have labs coming up on feb 8th if im lowering it should i reschedule in this new dose?i didnt even test for this one.but im feeling a bit over medicated well atleast thats what i think or feel

I used to take the whole 1 1/2 grains first thing in the morning with a glass of water I did not split it. This was the way I was advised to take it because it is slow release. Why are you splitting it like that?

Ive always have taken my ndts 2 to 3 times a day..i dint think i can handle taking all my ndt at once I'm trying to lower it because im feeling a bit overmedicated if that s whats gojng on

I took 1 1/2 grains in the morning and I felt ok but everyone is different. I do still have a thyroid that does work sometimes and at the moment I have not taken anything for nearly 2 years and I am remission since July of last year.

Thank. But Uk don’t use the grain methods

The grain measurement is only used for desiccated thyroid medicine, which was the first thyroid medicine to be widely used, long before synthetic levothyroxine was invented.

Grains is actually old fashioned terminology, but it's still frequently referred to because it was how doses of natural desiccated thyroid (NDT) were originally measured.
