Do menopause hot flushes and Graves hot flushes feel any different?

Had some hot flushes today. Am 48 and have been getting some peri symptoms for a while now but no hot flushes. Had two today and am concerned that my Graves may be flaring but could also be peri hot flushes starting. Also had lot of skippy beats palpitations last night but heart rate doesn’t feel raised. Wondering if you’ve had both Graves and menopause hot flushes whether they felt any different?

Thank you!

Not in my experience. As for heart rate, although I had short periods of palpitations with both, when my thyroid levels were very elevated, my heart rate was always running faster than usual. I remember when I was first diagnosed, my GP was amazed that I hadn’t noticed it thumping away, but it seems I had just got used to it.

Yes that’s my experience of Graves, racing very fast heart beats. Not constantly but episodes of it.

I am getting very prominent heartbeat (worse than normal) and skipping but heart rate is not raised.

Menopause many years ago but my memory is the hot flushes came on suddenly, mainly during the night with no other symptoms whereas with Graves they were on exertion and I would have fast heartbeat and feeling of exhaustion at same time which would ease if I rested.

That’s interesting, my hot flushes with Graves were very random and not related to exertion. Just came on suddenly and I would get to hit I’d need to stick myself in the fridge.

Had two yesterday, not as bad heat wise. First triggered in the day by mild exertion, the second was random just before bed.

Yes we all react differently. Hope you're not in the unfortunate position of experiencing both menopause hot flushes and Graves symptoms at the same time. Trying to work that out could give sleepless nights........oh no....another symptom of both 😱

I know this is my issue, so many overlapping symptoms! Trying to sort the wheat from the chaff and work out if I need a thyroid blood test…..

My hot flushes at age 52 were always much gentler than from the Graves overwhelming heat. As I had a hysterectomy (ovaries intact) at age 36 that was when I felt the heaviest flushes while recovering. These did not last too long, but at age 52 I felt gentle waves of heat which only lasted for about 6 months. Also my breasts went much softer at this time. I eventually had my ovaries removed in 2016 because of cysts on both of them. I am now on Erfa NDT, which is nowhere near as good as WP Thyroid.
