Forgot to take my NDT away with me HELP

Hey guys,

I have come away on holiday for 3 days and just looked to see I havent packed my NDT. I am on Thyreogland which contains 100mcg of T4 and 25mcg of T3. Should I go home? Or will I be ok to go until Tuesday without taking it?

Any advice/help welcome

Thanks

My untrained opinion is that you'll be alright, and you shouldn't spoil your holiday. Certainly, there's no risk of you dropping dead ont he spot! You might get a bit achy and sluggish if you over-do things - but, then again, you might not. I think going home would be a shame, don't you? :)

Thanks so much for the advice! My only concern is that last time I checked my TSH was not putting out much at all, so hopefully all will be ok. Will stay on hols and enjoy my time away. Thanks so much for the reply.

Sorry, don't follow that. Do you mean your TSH is very low? Well, it would be on NDT. That's not a problem and certainly doesn't mean you'll have problems not taking your NDT for a couple of days. :)

Oh right good ok, yes, my last blood test alarmed my GP so much that she called me in a very concerned way about my near-0 TSH, and I panicked and contacted my endo who said it was fine and that it was to be expected and wasnt an issue.. anyway - good news all round x

Yes, GPs do tend to panic about suppressed TSHs, because they don't really understand how it all works. If your TSH is suppressed, it's because your pituitary considers you have enough thyroid hormone in the blood, and don't need to stimulate the thyroid to make more. In other words, it's low because you don't need it. :)

Just thought I should add, TSH is not a thyroid hormone, it's made by the pituitary to stimulate the thyroid to make more hormone. Which is why it's high when you're hypo, but goes down when you start taking thyroid hormone replacement of any kind. :)

I agree with gg and also untrained. I had a friend who was off her thyroid hormone for a month for a particular reason so I don't think three days will do any real harm. Your daily dose is only a small part of what is already in your system.

I would confidently say no problem for such a short time. I have had many times with no NDT for 3/5 and up to 10 days once never had any problems other than not great after 10 days. Enjoy your time without worry.

Hi Not at all related to your question but hope it’s okay I ask anyway?

Does Thyreogland work well for you? I can’t really find anyone else with experience on it and have just been offered it as Erfa and Armour don’t work well for me .. ☺️
