NDT how to take

Hi everyone. I have no thyroid due to having RAI for graves.

I am intolerant to thyroxine and have been mono therapy with T3 for the past 3 or 4 years. Although I am well on T3 I just feel a little bit like something is missing.

I have just took delivery of NDT but not sure how to change over and how often to dose.

My endocrine has stayed me off with 2 grains per day. I’m not sure that will be enough for a full daily dose. I currently have 0.5 grain tablets so easy to tweak. I also still have T3 to top me up if the NDT isn’t quite enough.

If anyone has moved from mono T3 to NDT did you just do a straight swap.

What’s the best way to take it split the dose or all in one.

The reason I opted for the 0.5 grain was because the pharmacy was waiting on the 1 grain and it wouldn’t be in till mid feb.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thank you xx 😘

I don't understand your question. Especially doses, what exactly are you taking now.

Hiya, I think I’m ok. I’m just on T3. I’m sorry if my post caused some confusion. X

Sorry it's the brain fog, I see that you are taking T3 how much?

65 mcg. I am moving to NDT to see if it gives me that little boost. X.

Are you taking 65mcg of T3? One grain of NDT contains 39 mcg of T4 and 9 mcg of T3. Two grains are 78mcg of T4 and 18 of T3.

I am taking 2 grains when taking 3 grains I was over medicated. I have no thyroid either, or any other health issues.

If you are taking 65 mcg of T3 that's a lot! I have never felt exactly right as before my thyroid was removed It was working perfectly even with the nodule I have spent three years trying. Good Luck

Did you try a 0.5 grain of NDT. Maybe that’s what would help. Xx

It could it's a bit of a guessing game putting it mildly. You really need to post all of your rent blood tests on here with the ranges.

How much T3 are you taking?

I take 65. I had to increase this morning by another 12.5 as it is getting colder so I need a bit more. X

That is such a lot of T3. How do you feel are you having heath palps and losing weight?

No I don’t have any palpitations and not losing any weight. When I was first on T3 and getting the poison thyroxine out I was taking a much higher dose. Through the winter I always need more. I’m very hypo at the moment. Freezing cold and bad restless leg plus lots of cramp at night time. I am also very sensitive to the fillers. This is why I was going to try MDT. I had my delivery on Friday but don’t feel I’m in the right place to start. I read up I need to reduce my T3 and replace with 1 grain of NDT. I then need to wait 2 weeks before the next T3 drop and increase of NDT. I read that whilst I’m waiting for some of the T4 to turn to T3 I will get hypo feelings. This then concerned me as I wasn’t able to take thyroxine as I don’t think I was converting the T4 to T3 or it wasn’t getting down to my cells. I’m just now Mo longer sure I want to move from stable and feeling a bit like something is missing to maybe feeling unwell xx

I had my thyroid removed in Oct 2015 and was given various doses of Levo over 8 months it made me ill and put on weight. I then joined this site, I was living in France at the time. I start on NDT a straight swap 1/2 grain working up 3 grains which made me over the top range and I was losing too much weight I then reduced to 2.5 and now 2 grains. I weigh 10st and 5ft 8 inchs tall 72 years old.

In between I tried T3 as it's so cheap in France just over 3 Euros per box.

This was just in Nov/Dec 2017. The good feeling didn't last long and I went back to NDT. Thyroid s.

I don't believe that anybody feels exactly well without a thyroid. The only way maybe to take Levo adding a little T3 to the mix.

I can’t take thyroxine I was very unwell for 3 years on it. By the sounds of it you also can not take thyroxine. Do you feel better on the NDT or better when on T3. What brand of NDT do you take. I was given nature thyroid. Do you get it on NHS or private prescription. X
