After having a bad reaction to the Jarrows 1000mcg sublingual b12 which was an acne and dermatitis related bright red scaly rash over my face, I’ve decided I’m going to give the 50mcg cyanocobalamin tablets a good go to see if they raise my b12 levels. It says on the packet 1-3 a day so I’m thinking of taking one a day to see how my skin reacts. I’m also taking folic acid tablets at 5mg a day alongside vitamin d3. How long should I wait whilst taking all these tablets before doing a blood test?
Thank you!

If your GP is prescribing folic acid then he should be monitoring so sort out your folate test with your GP.
D3 should be restested about 3 months after starting to supplement to check your level to see if you need to adjust your dose. Are you also taking important cofactors Vit K2-MK7 and magnesium?
If you test B12 whilst supplementing then you get a result that reflects what you take so you can deduce from that if you're taking an appropriate dose. If you want to know how much B12 you are holding on to then you need to be off B12 for 4-5 months to get a baseline result.
Thank you SeasideSusie. I’ve had a bad skin reaction to the high dose b12 so am now trying the 50mcg cyanocobalamin tablets recommended by the pharmacist I spoke to about the rash. I will start on one a day and see how I tolerate that amount. If okay hopefully I will be able to raise the amount to 100mcg.
