I take 75 Levo 10 mcg T3

I am not too bad on this dose , better than a long time prior to .

I take my dose all together at about 4.30 am. I always am awake then ☹️

For about an hour before that my heart is beating very strongly in my chest .

My last blood test was

TSH 0.01. .27-4.2

T4. 17.44. 12-22

T3. 5.92. 3.1-6.8

Any thoughts would be gratefully received as to how to manage this .

Thank you

I am not medically qualified but I think your heart beat may be due to your body requiring your dose of T3. I had persistent fast heart beats when on levo and when added T3 everything calmed down. On T3 alone I had no problems but heart lets me know that my dose is due. Your blood test results look good.

When you did this blood test, how long before test was last dose Levothyroxine and last dose T3?

Should be 8-12 hours prior to blood test for T3 and 24 hours for Levothyroxine

Presumably your vitamins are optimal?

I do have anemia of chronic illness though ?

Like knitwitty and many other members on here, I also find splitting T3 dose is essential and discovered by accident (moving last dose late on night before a blood test) that taking 5mcg before bed greatly improves sleep

Suggest you experiment with how you take T3

5mcg at bedtime and 5mcg waking

Or try adding a third 5mcg dose, taking 3 doses per day at 8 hour intervals

Hi Gcart,

I have only recently started self medicating with T3, I have 25mcg tablets and I cut mine into quarters.

I too take 75mcg of levothyroxine, I began taking a quarter of a tablet (T3) first thing in the morning, I take my levo before I go to sleep at around 11pm.

In the last week I have started taking a second dose of T3 ( another quarter of a tablet) with my levo at bedtime and I can honestly say I have never slept so well, I will keep on with this regime for another couple of weeks and then do a blood test to see what my levels are, I was not converting very well before, that is why I have started on the T3.

I have noticed a real improvement in my energy levels since starting the T3, but by far the most significant change is in how I feel mentally, that awful cloud that has been hanging over me seems to be finally lifting.

I am not sure what my final T3 dose will be but if/when I start to feel 'down' again I shall take it as a sign that I need another slight increase in my T3.

Your mentioning the palpitations reminded me that I had a pounding heart when I went to bed on occasions, I have not had them since I introduced the bedtime T3.

Have you thought about splitting your 10mcg into two and taking one last thing at night and the other in the morning, you could take your levo with your nighttime dose or with your morning dose, just a thought. As shaws mentions maybe your heart is signalling that you need more / or a more constant dose of T3, I'm not medically qualified either by the way. :)

I think it's wise to consider if/how your symptoms are being resolved to decide whether or not dose is optimum or needing a small increase. Splitting doses doesn't suit me at all as it can prove difficult if I'm 'out and about'. Read the following links which might be helpful to you:-

If your having palpitations after taking your meds try splitting your dose instead of 10mg t3 at 4:30 take only 5mg t3. I have to split my T3 meds because it causes my heart to race and once I started that my issue stopped.

I take 75mcg T4 & 25 mcg T3, in 3 doses: the 75mcg T4 with 10 mcg T3 at midnight, then 1 5mcg T3pill @ 6-7:00 AM, then the last 10mcg T3 at noon, during a gym workout of about and hour, 5-6 days a week. I have no problems sleeping, including, after every workout a nap (usually 30-60 minutes). Peace be with you Golfcart.
