Hi, not sure if this will help you but I’ll share my experience.
I was diagnosed with acid reflux at the end of last year and given ppi’s. I felt very unwell when taking them and was given an alternative which was no better. I’m concentrating on keeping my thyroid and vitamin levels good. I don’t take the ppi’s. I’ve really improved my diet. I ate well before but now I’m making everything I eat from scratch - no processed food. I’ve also started not eating after my evening meal (6pm) until breakfast. I’m also not eating in between meals. I’m going to bed earlier and resting in the day if I can. My digestion is slowly improving. I hope you get improvements soon. Wishing you well!
I am on 40 mg of ppi twice a day but whilst I think my TSH has risen it is only 1.6 . I take my levo at bed time and the ppi with breakfast and the evening meal around 6pm .Do you take yours well away from the levo?
I had a similar experience following food poisoning. The ppi may have been responsible for elevating my liver enzymes (until I was tapered off it) so I’d recommend keeping a close eye on them too. As I was on no other medications than Synthroid the ppi seemed the cause. Years later I was switched to Tirosint to improve my absorption. Perhaps you could go that route sooner than later? It is on the pricey side but seems to absorb better.
Looking back I think gluten free helps this whole situation, along with putting a foam wedge at the head of your bed. And the usual advice of staying upright for several hours after eating & avoiding exercise then helps as well.
I am no longer tolerating high oxalate foods to any degree (I likely have other contributing factors). If your voice gets affected the ENT doctor told me to drink warm fluids instead of cold.
No, I purchased Tirosint in the U.S. It is good to research it & discuss with a pharmacist. One person on this forum alluded to hearing some problems with it. Unfortunately she did not elaborate.
I myself lose weight with Tirosint so I take it in conjunction with Synthroid to prevent weight loss. I had been on Synthroid for ages then abruptly switched to Tirosint. I think my body did not like this abrupt transition. I felt tired but my thyroid labs had improved. If I were to do it again I would transition taking a little of each, not suddenly switch to Tirosint.
My lymphocyte count was mildly low but re-tested normal recently. My Internist said I probably had a infection. This may account for earlier tiredness.
I found following my poor absorption of Synthroid some vitamins were low too (vitamin D, B-12 & B-2) so keep an eye on yours. Take care.
