been on levothyroxine since sept2018, increased a month ago from 50 to 75. On saturday just gone, my top palette at the back of my mouth started to really burn. Can't really drink anything hot, then it subsides slightly, and mouth just dries out.Does anyone know if it could be the thyroxine

A burning palate sensation may be secondary burning mouth syndrome, the cause of which can be hormonal/metabolic disorders, including thyroid and diabetes; allergies to dental products, dry mouth caused by disorders such as Sjögren’s; some drugs such as anti-hypertensives; nutritional deficiencies such as a low vit B12 or iron; oral infections such as a yeast infection; acid reflux ..................

If it has only recently started and you've been taking Levo since last year, it's unlikely to be Levo per se; but has it coincided with changing brand?

It may not be mentioned on your prescription, if the brand has changed it's more likely to be what the pharmacy had in stock when dispensing your meds. But the name on the box, and the branding of the box, will tell you, if it's different from the last tablets given to you.

I’ve been on Levothyroxine for 12 years. Last year I notice my tongue seemed to be burning all time. Couldn’t understand it. Some months later I found I had B12 and ferritin deficiencies. Theses can cause burning in your mouth. I’d get your B12 and ferritin checked. You need optimal figures in the range not just nudging in over the bottom figure. GP may say normal but check the figures yourself. It needs to be half way through the range at least. If it isn’t ask for supplements. I now have regular B12 injections and iron tablets.

do you find that the B12 and the iron tablets help you?

definitely. But what helped more was getting my thyroid levels good.

I have been on 175 gm of Levothyroxine since I had my total thyroidectomy surgery in 2015. I have not had any major problem with my medication apart from dry eye and I’m currently using Hylo-Forte eye drops. I have stick to just two maker of Levothyroxine tables- Actavis & Wockhardt. I also do regular blood test to check for my T3 and T4 Level. You will need to contact your GP.
