Hello all, i got my blood results a couple of weeks ago and my appointment with gp is finally this evening, can anyone advise how I approach these results with him. He won’t be happy with my tsh so I need to justify this to him, and also ask about the antibodies ..... what would you suggest? I am on ndt self medicating but he goes by the levels associated with Levo. I have added the results that I will be showing him. After my previous nhs results he suggested I lover my ndt to raise my tsh but we all know that’s not correct and in actual fact it was suggested on here that I raise my ndt which I have done by half a grain in the afternoon. I am going to ask him to test further for hashi’s, but worry he is just going to dismiss me.

Drs appointment tonight with Medicheck thyroid results advice please!!
Why are you seeing GP if you are self medicating?
They are likely to be convinced you are over medicated, because of low TSH
You will need to emphasise that FT4 is rock bottom and FT3 well within range...so you are not over medicated

Shows low B12 and folate. Are you now supplementing vitamin B complex?
Vitamin B complex with folate in not folic acid may be beneficial.

B vitamins best taken in the morning after breakfast
Recommended brands on here are Igennus Super B complex. (Often only need one tablet per day, not two. Certainly only start with one tablet per day after breakfast. Retesting levels in 6-8 weeks ).
Or Jarrow B-right is popular choice, but is large capsule
If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

High TG antibodies most likely due to Hashimoto's

Have you tried strictly gluten free diet?
If not......While still eating high gluten diet ask GP for coeliac blood test first or buy test online for under £20, just to rule it out first
Assuming test is negative you can immediately go on strictly gluten free diet
(If test is positive you will need to remain on high gluten diet until endoscopy, maximum 6 weeks wait officially)
Trying gluten free diet for 3-6 months. If no noticeable improvement then reintroduce gluten and see if symptoms get worse

I wanted to see if he can confirm hashi’s and what he can do for it. He has said he will support my self medicating and will do my bloods for me however he didn’t action the antibody testing nor t3 so I’ll need to ask if he can do these going forward also.
I had celiac testing about a year ago and it came back “normal”
I take b complex and magnesium daily.
I do feel better since being on ndt but still not loosing weight and sleep is all over the place.
Vast majority of us with Hashimoto's are not coeliac, but still an enormous number find strictly gluten free diet helps or is essential
The only way to know is to try it for 3-6 months.
GP has no treatment options to lower antibodies
You will need to look for your root cause of attack....could be diet related - most common are gluten or dairy. Others can be nightshades - tomatoes, peppers
Other common things are gut infections, SIBO, H Pylori, or glandular fever in past etc

Thank you that’s really helpful. I did follow aip a couple of years ago and I did feel a million times better, however it is so strict I really struggle to stay on it, I missed having a cappuccino and the odd slice of toast at the weekends. I will try and get back on track which may help again, however my levels never ever regulated and at the time my Dr was changing my levo avery 6-8 weeks as I’d either go very hypo or extremely hyper. I hoped ndt would be my magical cure but I’ve clearly still got a long way to go.
When taking NDT your FT4 will be lower due to the T3. Sadly Docs know very little about auto-immunity so I wouldn't worry his little head 😊 Just keep reading and asking questions here ... I was diagnosed with Hashimotos at 59 - now 72 - and have learnt so much from reading here for over seven years ...
Thanks Marz, I have to say I might just cancel my appointment tonight, I’m exhausted as it is without trying to educate the Dr on something I know little about. I just need him to agree to keep testing my bloods for me. Maybe I’ll write him a letter instead 🤣
This forum is fantastic although I feel I ask the same questions time and time again and must infuriate the lovelies who take time to keep teplying to my tedious questions. One day it will hopefully sink in and I won’t ask quite so much 🙏🏻
Brain fog often improves slowly on gluten free diet .....can take about a year to notice improvement in word recall and memory
Just gluten free is not too difficult to stick to.
Gluten free bread makes good toast (need to use separate toaster from one that uses normal bread, or you can get a toaster bag from coeliac UK).
Watch out for cross contamination- use separate butter, jam, chopping board etc
NHS labs refuse to test TG antibodies if TPO antibodies are negative. They also will never retest antibodies
FT3 test is never run by NHS lab unless TSH and FT4 are out of range.....so you might occasionally get this tested
Remember to stop taking any supplements that contain biotin (eg vitamin B complex) a week before any blood tests
So I went to see the Dr, he will continue to request free t3 testing but can’t guarantee they will always do it. He is referring me to an endo. He said they can possibly prescribe me t3. But tbh I’m happy to stay with the ndt I am taking and try and get to an optimal range. He agreed that I need to increase my dosage as my levels are not optimal. So basically he is confirming everything you lovelies have said, I’m just pleased he is onboard and happy that I’m happier off levo.
So what can I expect from an endo? Is it going to be a complete waste of time?
