Without going into too much detail, have been on trial of NDT for four weeks. Multi dosed over this time and got dose to 1 an 1/2 grain.
Four weeks is not the correct time for thyroid blood test but unfortunately I was admitted to A+E couple of days ago, due to irregular heart rate, highest peak at 169. Diagnosed with AFib and prescribed anticoagulants and referred to AFib clinic which I attended yesterday.
I suspect T3 triggered the AFib. Tried to discuss this with doctor treating me in A+E but he said my TSH was normal. Did inform him that I was taking EFRA, prescribed by private endocrinologist, told him it was used to treat thyroid issues prior to the introduction of synthetic levothyroxine. He was baffled so went to Google NDT?????
Heard no more from him about NDT but he did say my TSH was NORMAL.
Would appreciate some feedback on the so called normal THS results:
TSH 0.99. (0.4 - 4.5)
FREE Thy 12.3 (8 - 21)
T3 5.9 (2.5 - 6.5)
Kind regards to all

Hi Scrumbler emergency happened 9am....had breakfast, wholemeal bread, mackerel an fresh tomatoes at 8am. That was it. Blood test done about 2pm at a quess
Hey Scrumbler based on my past medical history, regarding thyroidectomy 1992 and treatment with T4 only, told by new NHS endocrinologist January this year that I had been over prescribed thyroxine for many years which has effected my heart. His words, not mind, he said "You are burnt out"!! He would not prescribe T3 because of palpitations I had mentioned on past visits to various endos in clinic. Not one of these endos initiated any cardio investigations. Hence i had to pay for private cardiologist and he did not find Afib with tests but he did give my present private endocrinologist the go ahead to prescribe NDT. Cardiologist cannot detect AFib unless you are having an episode/symptoms that can be recorded. So symptoms were recorded in my recent emergency admission to A+E. I still suspect T3 brought the symptoms on cos had not sorted adrenals insufficiency issue. This does not mean I am undermining T3 or NDT in anyway because I still intend dose with either one in the future when I have had surgery for cardio issue which I intend to pay for myself. Can't go on like this.
Sadly for now now I back dosing with levo!!!
Totally agree with you that AFib can occur for many reasons and I really do appreciate your most welcome feedback.
Yeah wholemeal, bread, mackerel and fresh toms is a scrummy breakfast.
Ohh forgot to mention on morning of admission to a+E I took adrenal cortex by mistake after breakfast. Got it mixed up with DHEA prescribed by private endocrinologist. Not sure if this pushed T3 to surge through body..Hence AFib reaction. What do you think?
Just had adrenal cortex in stock to use at a later date.
Thanks a million Scrumbler. Be lost without your help and support.
Think I might have confused you. January this year, after becoming extremely ill October 2019 I sought help from my NHS endocrinologist and requested T3. Thing is I never saw same endocrinologist on each visit. January 2020 got to see boss nhs endo who I never seen before. It was a long consult, well beyond the usual 10 mins. He studied my TSH results in graph form, going back quite a long time. Then popped his up and said, "You have been over prescribed levothyroxine for a very long time". He concluded, "Basically you are burnt out" The thyroid blood results in my initial post were nothing to do with the remarks made by endocrinologist in January 2020.
The above thyroid results in first post was for trial of NDT which I started four weeks ago under supervision of private endocrinologist but have now stopped the trial and gone back on levo due to AFib and addmission to a+e.
To my knowledge AFib cannot be detected unless you are having palpitations at time of testing. Had echocardiogram, CT scan, echostress test, bolster monitor via private cardiologist and AFib was not detected. During cardiologist testing I was on levothyroxine. AFib was detected on ECG however when I was rushed to a+E a few days ago which was when I was on trial of NDT.
Sorry if I confused you.
Yes my TT was for cancer.
Ohh yeah Scrumbler I am going to feel rubbish on levothyroxine. Can't wait to get back on NDT of T3 but got to sort out heart issues, adrenals etc.
I also did a 7 month trial this year but after three recalls on NDT I gave up on it. I was wondering if you took the 1 1/2 grains all at once in the morning? I had to split my doses into at least 2 doses throughout the day.
I started on low dose 30mg grain daily split dosing....half morning, half late afternoon. Over period of four weeks managed t reach one x 60mg + one x 30mg as instructed by my private endocrinologist.
