Ive just seen a lovely consultant tonight privately, my GP referred me to on the NHS , ( I got him from the list from Dionne ) my appointment was for July on the NHS so decided to bite the bullet and just do it privately. He listened to me , weighed and examined me , and said he would see me this Saturday at his NHS clinic and do blood tests for cortisone, adrenals and hormones , I feel like he really listened , he said looking at me I needed more thyroxine based on my medichecks results and would discuss T3 once the results are back. Feel like this is the first time I have been listened to in years . Feeling positive x
****EDIT*****
I did tell him I had purchased someT3 and he said he may not be able to prescribe on the NHS but would be happy to monitor me , I might have to do a private prescription , so it’s not a definite yes , but I’m so happy all the other things being looked at fingers crossed 🤞 x

Where are you based? I’m near Birmingham and am struggling to find a good consultant. My doctor said “why do you need regular blood tests” and “you probably know more than I do about Hashimotos” ... so I really need to find someone who listens and really understands the disease!
my Doctor is utterly useless he may as well be a car mechanic for all he knows about thyroid i would like to see a private doctor. i live in Birmingham. not sure how to find a good one
Strongly recommend getting full Thyroid and vitamin testing privately and post results for members to advise on next steps
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip, best not mentioned to GP or phlebotomist)
Last Levothyroxine dose should be 24 hours prior to test, (taking delayed dose immediately after blood draw).
Is this how you do your tests?
Private tests are available. Thousands on here forced to do this as NHS often refuses to test FT3 or antibodies or all vitamins
Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have special offers, Medichecks usually have offers on Thursdays, Blue Horizon its more random
Medichecks currently have an offer on until end of May - 20% off
That's wonderful news, and I'm delighted for you that you've found somebody who will actually listen to you - a rare find! I hope this helps you find improved health. Like others here, I'd love to know where this wonderful consultant is based - do tell! Thanks x
