Vitamin D

I can’t over emphasis the power of Vit D, I’ve never really thought about it before visiting this forum. My test came back as lacking, 6 numbers from the ‘insufficient’ mark but my NHS endo didnt give it much thought or advice. But I got the Betteryou spray as recommend on here. It has really worked quickly for me and raised my levels by 15 in 3wks.

I told hubby to give it a go aswell and he’s been religiously spraying it every morning. My husband has suffered SAD every winter for a number of years. He’s not very proactive with is health and we talked about lights ect but we never followed through with any strategies to help him (tbh I think my condition just took over the whole family 🤪) Anyway he feels soooo good!! This has been one of our longest winters for him, taking care of me and the 4 kids, full time work, housework, running the kids here and there as I couldn’t drive. But 3wks of Vit D and he’s sooo positive!

He’s now a convert and his home blood test is on its way to check his other levels 🤗

My dr has put me on vit D 1 twice a week, I did try taking shop bought a few years ago I bought over the counter and my neck and chest were itching something awful and stopped as soon as I stopped taking them, the dosage from the dr is very much smaller

That's great news. I started supplementing as I was deficient. I'm hoping I'll be full of beans soon :-D

Have a look at the rightsleep site drgominak.com/vitamin-d/ - more info on Vit D and making sure you don't have a problem with Vit B deficiencies. (I supplemented my D and am now having to back track to supplement my Bs).

Thanks bookish 🤗 I’ll pop that link with the rest of my library that I’m keeping. It’s article is really helpful. I’ve always been curious about Vit D but only in a ‘pub quiz’ kind of way. A curiosity born of having 2 red headed children. My husband and I were tired of the comments ‘where does the red come from?’ Him being blonde and me being brown. People just couldn’t fathom the red (although they seemed to be placated when they knew that I was Irish and my mum has red hair) so my curiosity about the genetics of red hair led me to look at Vit D and how on earth my red heads absorb it. As fascinating as it has all been, I’ve just never really known if it’s power!

My vitamin levels are half way through the range so I’ll be looking at the B’s ect in good time. Just doing one thing at a time.

Thanks again for the link! It’s become a full time job to read up on all this lovely knowledge 🤗

Red hair is recessive in both fair- and brown-haired people. So if you both a have a recessive gene in there, you can have red-headed children - it's a sort double recessive/gene mutation, a bit like ginger cats. I have auburn hair (although it was fair to mousey when I was very young) and both my parents were dark.

Yes we knew that from GCSE Biology 😂 But other people want it to ‘come’ from someone or be from my Irish side. My MIL still won’t accept that anyone in her or her husbands family has a red head gene (which sounds mean of her but she really adores the girls colouring)

This is a bit of a tangent but I was also trying to find out if red and blonde are both recessive is one of them more dominant cover the other or is it just that both of us have passed on the recessive red.

just tell her that someone in her family tree was obviously abducted by leprechauns (or Chris Evans) - I know which one I'd prefer. Red is a mutation as well as recessive, so you'd need the mutation on both sides as well as a regular recessive blond gene. In cats, the ginger gene is on the X chromosome - don't know about in people - which is why most ginger cats are male

And blonde is a mutation and recessive but if each recessive is handed down, red from me and blonde from hubby which one would win?? Lol Not unless as you say we both handed down the red, it’s just not evident in his family and comes from many generations ago.

And for anyone who doesn't already know, D3 supplements have important cofactors as recommended by the Vit D Council -

vitamindcouncil.org/about-v...

D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc.

D3 and K2 are fat soluble so should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day, D3 four hours away from thyroid meds if taking tablets/capsules/softgels, no necessity if using an oral spray

Magnesium helps D3 to work. We need Magnesium so that the body utilises D3, it's required to convert Vit D into it's active form. So it's important we ensure we take magnesium when supplementing with D3.

Magnesium comes in different forms, check to see which would suit you best and as it's calming it's best taken in the evening, four hours away from thyroid meds if taking tablets/capsules, no necessity if using topical forms of magnesium.

naturalnews.com/046401_magn...

Check out the other cofactors too (some of which can be obtained from food).

Great link again for my library. Although I’ve bought the wrong Magnesium 😩 I bought Taurate. Shall I just take it anyway? Seems like a waste of money but what if it’s a waste of time?

I use the Betteryou spray D3/K2 but I spray it in the morning as I get up. I don’t eat till at least after 2pm. Should I be spraying it then instead or does it not mattter because it’s a spray and not a tablet?

You can take the spray at any time, it is absorbed through the membranes in the oral cavity so bypasses the stomach.

I don't think you've wasted your money with the magnesium taurate, I'd use it and when you next need to buy some then just buy the most appropriate form. I take 2 forms - magnesium taurate for my heart and magnesium citrate as I've suffered with life long constipation (not any more :) )

Ok, good advice. But i meant to go for the malate but as you say I’ll use this lot up first.

Ok I’ll move my dose if I don’t continue to optimal levels. 3/4wks and I’ve gone from 36nmol/l and now I’m up to 53nmol/l 😀

Hi Paula a lovely post thank you I would also encourage a light box for your hubby if he still gets SAD my light husband was extremely cynical about using one but was then a total convert once he'd used it!!

Best wishes to you both for continued health improvements

That’s great advice. I think he will be more willing now to try alternative therapies. He didn’t believe all this voodoo stuff before 😂
