Will a 1/4 reduction of NDT be enough.

Hi

Yesterday I posted my latest results on NDT on 2&1/2 grains, 6 weeks on that dosage.

TSH 0.01 (0.27-4.20)

T4 17.60 (12.00-22.00)

T3 8.29 (3.1-6.8)

I was feeling fantastic for three weeks or so, but now I feel dreadful, I’m exhausted, high heart rate, anxiety and I can feel my neck stiffness coming back.

Based on the above results I reduced my NDT by just a 1/4 grain on 8th March so now I’m taking 2&1/4 grains only.

The problem is will that reduction of 1/4 grain get my T3 results within range again?, or would it be stupid to reduce it further by a 1/4 grain.

The issue is I’ve got jury service next week, and I need to feel slightly human.

Best wishes

Peanut,

Raising or decreasing shouldn’t be done too quick. When did you take your NDT in relation your blood test ?

This will better indicate how over range you really are (or not). T3 has a short half life so leaves the body quickly, reducing levels rapidly.

Hi

The blood test was around 8 & 1/2 hours after taking NDT as per advice on here 8-10 hours.

I know levo is 24 hours.

The test was carried out first thing in the morning, no eating, water only.

The previous test my T4 was low, but in range and my T3 in range.

It appears I’m now overmedicated, I did feel good for 3 weeks, but looking at the results I’ve got too much T3

My pulse rate is always high, I know they say bloods are irrelevant on NDT, but if you don’t test how would you know what the problem is.

If I didn’t do the bloods I would of presumed I would of needed more NDT, when in fact I don’t?

I’m no expert on this, but, it appears everyone is different.

Do you think it would be stupid to reduce by 1/2 grain? Instead of 1/4.

Looking at the symptoms I’m over medicated.

Best wishes & thank you for replying

Peanut31,

You have room to decrease by a half if that is what you wish as your FT3 is well over-range, considering you left 8 hours between testing & taking your meds.

However, reading your previous post I think some of your symptoms may also be the result of adrenal issues and these will take far longer to rectify than reducing thyroid hormone levels.

If your cortisol levels are elevated, have you investigated adaptogens known for lowering ? Elevated cortisol levels can inhibit thyroid hormones from working well.

Thanks so much for your reply.

Yes cortisol levels high morning, mid morning and afternoon, normal evening.

I’ve had three Geneva test and every time they confirm this.

My DHEA was low, now it’s in the higher range, I was taking 5mcg of DHEA.

I’m being taking ashwagandha twice daily.

I sleep like a baby though.

Best wishes

Peanut31,

This is all good.

You should start to feel benefits once thyroid hormone has reduced and adrenals calm a bit.

Hope you feel better and jury service is interesting next week. I’ve always wanted to do that.
