I recently posted my Medichecks results done last week, finger prick done at 15.30 non fasting:-

TSH 1.34 (0.27 - 4.2)

FT4. 13.2. (12 - 22)

FT3. 3.19 (3.1 - 6.8)

I then had NHS tests done 3 days later, fasting and at 7.45am:

TSH 1.52 (0.34 - 5.60)

FT4 12.0 (7.70 - 15.10)

FT3 4.8 (4.30 - 6.80)

Ferritin 11 (11 - 307)

Vit D 130 nmol (have been supplementing)

Vit B12 355

Folate 23.2. (3.80 - 25)

Background

Unmedicated autoimmune thyroid disease with TPO antibodies at 248 ng/ml and TgAb at 1,207 ng/ml. Multinodular normal thyroid gland.

Mildly raised ANA 1:80

Symptoms include weak muscles, shortness of breath, exercise intolerance, mild panic attacks and anxiety and fatigue. Feeling cold and headaches. Frequent palpitations.

I have a long and constant battle with iron deficient anaemia and Raynauds.

My question is I consistently have very low FT3 and although I battle with anaemia I can’t help feeling my low FT3 is contributing to my symptoms. My kind GP is happy to meet up with me to discuss these results but should I be pushing for an endo referral due to a possible conversion issue or thyroid hormone resistance?

I have been reading some scary articles on the effects of low FT3 especially on cardiac health and I already have diagnosed Supraventricular tachycardia and multiple daily ectopics! I reckon I have a huge battle of persuasion ahead of me with the GP !

Thanks so much for any thoughts out there. I have been taking 210mg of Ferrous Fumerate for years but my ferritin keeps dropping 😕. I’m not celiac !

Ferritin is terrible! What is your GP doing about it? You probably need an iron infusion - you should certainly get a full iron panel done. Anaemia could account for many symptoms and will make it impossible to make good use of thyroid hormones. B12 isn't good either. You probably won't be able to increase free t3 until you get your iron and B12 levels sorted out.

Thank you so much Angel-_of_the_North and I agree that if I sort my iron out the rest should follow - I am seeing my GP about changing my iron dosing levels. Will also start up my B12 supplements again! Thanks !

In your Raynauds does your feet and hands stay cold through out the day?

Hi Jpod. I find that my hands and feet are either really cold or too hot (and swollen and itchy). It’s hard to find a middle ground ! Within about half an hour of putting on bed socks when my feet are cold and ‘numb’, I’m ripping off the socks as my feet have over heated. I find bamboo socks are the best and non itchy gloves (no wool) for my hands!
