CT Scan with Iodine Contrast

On Tuesday, I will be having my annual follow-up CT scan for lung cancer. My oncologist has ordered it with contrast, which certainly gives a better picture of what is going on. However, a) I have had an allergic reaction to the contrast in the past (hives). The doctor has prescribed desamethasone (a steroid) for 8 hours and 4 hours before the infusion, and diphenhydramine HCl (Benedryl) 1 hour before. That should take care of the allergic reaction.

But b) I have heard that large amounts of iodine can interfere with treatment for hypothyroidism. Is there anything I can do to flush out the iodine from my system afterwards?

I had the contrast , it didnt suit me either , afraid poorly for 3 or 4 days . Drunk water as instructioned to flush kidneys .

I think its about need to do !

Then , if that info is required for your follow up , then you may have to do it and recover as best you can .

Sorry no more help

vocalEK When I had this procedure I was advised by the person who administered it to have a long soak in a magnesium bath to help draw out the toxins as soon as I got back home. I hope it goes well for you.

I had a GI CT scan with some kind of contrast? I was shaking all over after the scan for about 30 minutes. Nobody gave me any feedback if I was allergic or ? I don't want to have another one. Sorry I'm not helpful and don't trust the medical profession any more.

I haven't had that type of test but I did have a bone sctintigraphy test where they scanned the whole body (supposedly to find the source of my pain...) and I was also injected with something to improve the contrast (also avoided iodine). A woman in the hospital toldmer her gp (who was also a homeopath like mine) recommended Radium bromatum 7ch to take 3 times a day for 7-10 days... it depends on whether you believe in homeopathy or not... my experience for the last 20 years is that it can help.... worked better than 'classic' medicine for morning sickness 30 years ago... good luck !
