Iodine/Ct Scan.

I’d be really grateful if anyone could answer a quick question. Thank you.

My GP this morning has refused to issue my thyroid meds as I’m very overdue a thyroid blood test.

However I’ve had a CT scan on a kidney this afternoon, and have just been told that any thyroid blood work will be inaccurate due to the iodine used within the scan. Unfortunately the hospital staff didn’t know how long I have to wait before I arranging my thyroid blood test.

Does anyone know how long I’m supposed to now wait before I’m able to get my thyroid bloods done without this iodine causing any problems with the results?

Many Thanks😊

I’d don’t have the answer your looking for but one of the other might. I’d ring up your doctors and tell them what you have had done and tell them you don’t know how long you have to wait, and also the name of the person who is refusing to request for your medication and what should you do. Because you was told by hospital the reading might be wrong after your hospital visit.

Thank you for replying. I usually try and avoid the GP practice at all costs when it comes to any thyroid issues, and use Medichecks instead. They’ve obviously had enough of my avoiding them... I think you’re right and I’ll have to contact them tomorrow and discuss what the hospital has advised regarding any thyroid testing.

I’ve no better advice to give than that which has already been provided but just wanted to say, your GP is pretty rubbish, eh? :(

Completely withholding vital medication because you haven’t had a blood test lately is terrible behaviour given we’re still dealing with a pandemic—I see from reading earlier posts that you have secondary hypothyroidism.

Think I’d be minded to put in a complaint...

Thanks Jazzw, You must of read my mind! After mulling this situation over, I’ve decided that I’m going to contact the GP surgery today and ask why they need to have any control over my thyroid medication and any testing... Considering that I’ve managed it myself with the occasional input from an Endo for several years without any issues. The GP’s there have zero understanding on secondary hypothyroidism and from past experience, they will try and alter dosages etc as they have always caused me issues in the past. You are absolutely right about them being pretty rubbish... they’ve made the National press in the past because they are so appalling. Unfortunately I live in a very rural area and have no way of being able to change to a different GP practice. If I had the option I and hundreds of other patients would of left them... fast!😬

Gosh, that’s not an easy situation is it? Hope you manage to get somewhere with this—even if it’s just an apology!
