Hello, so my Dr. Said my levels were in high normal range taking 112 mcg Synthroid. I couldnt lose weight to save my life. I decided i want to go natural based on internet research. So she put me on 90mcg of NP Thyroid and 50 mcg of synthroid.

Felt great at first, then couldn't concentrate.... blood test said my numbers were doubled, so she cut the NP to 45mcg.

Hot flashes, joint pain, burning in muscles like i worked out!! OMG what did I do??!!

I has been a few weeks.....anyone else have this crazy experience??

I'm also doing the KETO way of eating, down 25 pounds, but now can't celebrate cause I think its because too much meds!!

Luckily I don't have insomnia!

When did you start Keto? It’s possible that the change in diet has improved your gut absorption, especially given you may have been sensitive to gluten previously (perhaps without knowing it). So you’ve changed 2 variables - meds and diet. It may mean that you are now effectively on too much thyroid hormone replacement because your body is now able to absorb the meds better.

(25lbs could just be the Keto though - depending on your starting weight, it can be incredibly effective in the first few weeks although a good amount of that will be glycogen and water reduction).

CarmenML Without knowing what tests were carried out, and what were the results and their reference ranges it's difficult to comment on what might be going on. For instance, if "numbers were doubled" relates to your TSH then you would appear to be undermedicated and need an increase in dose. On the other hand, if it was your FT4 / FT3 results that were doubled, you would appear to be over-medicated and require a dose reduction. In any case, reducing your NDT from 1.5 grains to 3/4 grain is too big a reduction in one go. Regarding NDT being "natural" in fact the dessiccated gland is pharmaceutically manipulated and combined with excipients to form the tablet, so not so natural; but in any case a pig's thyroid produces a different ratio of T4:T3 than does that of a human, so it's not a natural match. If you post your actual results and their respective reference ranges, folks might have a clearer understanding of what might be going on, in order to comment.

I will have to get a copy of the results, the t3 and t4 were high, definitely overmedicated. 90 mcg of NP converts to much more than the 112 mcg of synthroid I was taking, according to NP's table. Then add the 50 mcg of synthroid on top of it. Dr. said it will take time....

Woke up at 3am....
