Hi Kari, is your husband on any thyroid medication? Also what symptoms is he having? By the look of it, it looks like he’s either on too much anti thyroid hormone or possibly starting to go hypo? I am not a professional obviously. Symptoms can play a key role during this time.
Thanks Jenna, yes he is on 25mg of PTU every other day. I’m not sure about his symptoms anymore as he hasn’t been that great for the past year but recently he hasn’t been too bad.
No problem, I took a look at the last labs that you had posted and it seems as though his tsh and Ft4 have moved to the right. He still is in range technically but would be good to speak with the doctor about this. Additionally would be good to ask him to specify how he feels. Just some indicators if you dont know already know, hyper: anxious, jittery, anger punding heart etc. and hyp: tired, fatigue, hair loss, outer part of eye brows not as full etc. I think insomnia is often for both (I have experienced both ends). More detailed lists are online but its also important note again, if you dint already know, that alot of these symptoms overlap as well with other things and it sounds like you both have a lot going on. One other thing to note on antibodies, ranges are different it seems in the UK compared to US. On my most recent ANA from a Rheumatologist, the range for tpo is <5.6 IU/mL and on another its <9 IU/mL
For TG a couple ranges are <or =1 IU/mL , and another is <4 IU/ mL. So its something to keep in mind. Over here we dont treat autoimmune thyroid issues any differently, but it seems to be common to have both hyper and hypo antibodies.
Getting diagnosed with Grave's doesn't always mean getting TRAB or TSI tested. Some doctors don't understand the necessity and will diagnose Grave's just on the bais of a suppressed TSH.
