Other medication at least 2 hours away, some like HRT, iron, calcium, vitamin D or magnesium at least four hours away from Levothyroxine
Many people find Levothyroxine brands are not interchangeable.
Once you find a brand that suits you, best to make sure to only get that one at each prescription. Watch out for brand change when dose is increased or at repeat prescription.
Many patients do NOT get on well with Teva brand of Levothyroxine. Though it is the only one for lactose intolerant patients
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested. Also extremely important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially if Thyroid antibodies are raised
Yes Ive noticed a different brand is being sent, and I have been on 300gms Iron daily they seem to cause excessive wind and pain, but told not now aneamic...I do everything else right...meybe its just old age... but dont think so..
There is a view that our thyroxine need diminishes with age, and it's possible that you may be slightly over-medicated - sweating and diarrhoea can be indicative of that. Unfortunately so many symptoms are very general, and can be experienced with both hyper- and hypothyroidism, and with many other disorders of course; so without your new blood test results it's only so much guessing. Why can't you have a blood test until the New Year? I'd suggest going back to the GP and tell him you need action now. I'd say that in this regard at least, you aren't likely being discarded because of age, because poor & inadequate thyroid treatment is absolutely non-discriminatory, we can all be subject to it irrespective of age ...... You might also like to consider what so many of us do, which is have our bloods tested privately - you can read more here thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...
By the way, 20 years is no time at all - it's been 40 years since I was diagnosed, and there are others here who go beyond that
Make sure you get a copy of all test results and post results on here with ranges so that knowledgeable people can comment on them for you. You are legally allowed to have copies. I have been on thyroxine for 60 odd years. My doctors surgury is very good at letting me have copies, last time I requested them it was printed off within a matter of minutes and handed to me in the waiting room, best of luck
