I started Magnesium citrate daily for muscle cramps and sore muscles. This could have started the diarrhea. So I completely stopped, but purchased some magnesium chelate which I'm not going to try until the diarrhea has stopped. It started to firm up when I increased my Naturethroid by one pill 48.75, a week. I definitely feel better all around, I.e. emotionally, energy. Brain fog. Still the diarrhea persists. My Endo nurse never has anything to say other than TSH within range, there is no discussion, no acknowledge ment of articles I gave her from this website. Very disappointing so I'm off to find new GP and maybe Endo, but I think I'm doing better dosing myself and posting on this website. It's only been three weeks since increase, so I'm going to stay at this for two or three more weeks and then decide to hopefully get labs of Tsh,t4, t3 to compare. Advice here suggests I am pretty low on NDT dosage since last posted labs.
Thanks.

leftbehind how do you supplement your Magnesium Citrate ? Best is to divide the Magnesium dose 2x/day . Taking it all in one gulp will cause you to have diarrhea .
I was taking I was taking it once a day not with the naturethroid, but I found a different form of it called magnesium chelate which is supposed to be easily absorbed and I haven't tried it yet cuz I've been off the other magnesium for two weeks and still have some diarrhea. So not real sure where it's coming from but not going to not going to take any magnesium until it clears up then I will try the chelated 250 mg. Thanks for the support, I'll keep posting.
I'm on my own now because I fired all my doctors as useless money pits. Have to find a new GP to order labs for me.
leftbehind , Best to supplement Magnesium and Vitamin "C" split 2x/day . If these vitamins are supplemented all in one gulp you risk having bowel problems . And as you know already magnesium is supplemented 4 hours away from our thyroid meds .
Hi leftbehind, just wondering how you went with getting the magnesium out of your system? I to am experiencing the same thing but from taking magnesium chelate and wondering how long I'll have diarrhoea for? took magnesium chelate 150mg 3 times a day... For 2 weeks. Have stopped but still diarrhoea persists.
Magnesium citrate ...Will cause Diarrhea unless you have IBS-C like me its the only thing that makes me normal.
Hi lb. I've been taking magnesium for 4 or 5 years now. It was recommended by my cardiologist for atrial fibrillation. In the beginning it was trial and error with various forms to find which didn't cause diarrhea and made me feel better.
I finally settled on 2 that I stick with: Magnesium Glycinate or Magnesium Taurate. I switch back and forth when I buy them depending on which one is in stock at the store and also if one is on sale. They are fairly expensive (between $20 and $30/month) but when I don't take them I don't feel good.
I take 400mg tablets. As they are large and I have trouble swallowing I cut them in half with my pill cutter and take 1/2 in am & 1/2 at night. Since I take thyroid early (5 or 6am) and go back to bed then eat breakfast around 9 or 10 the magnesium is kept well away from the thyroid meds.
I also supplement with the magnesium oil spray esp on my legs after showering. I really like the spray and a few years ago I came across a recipe to make my own online. Very easy and much cheaper.
If you're interested check out a website called wellnessmama.com or just google magnesium oil recipes. There are quite a few. I have nothing to do with the site I mentioned. I've used it for other info and found the formula to make my own by accident.
