Sep 2018

FERRITIN 29 (30 - 400)

FOLATE 4.3 (4.6 - 18.7)

VITAMIN D TOTAL 42.6 (25 - 50 vitamin D deficiency)

VITAMIN B12 251 (190 - 900)

I take 800iu vit D only just prescribed, folic acid 5mg only just prescribed and I have been taking B12 oral spray since March 2018.

Advice welcome, thank you

I’m definitely no expert on vitamins etc but you really are scraping along the bottom with all of those results.

My ferritin is always above the range without taking anything, my folates are always ok so I’ve never had to boost them but I top up my B12 which was similar to yours with Jarrow’s sublingual methyl cobalamin 5000mcg - very easy to take - and I use a better you vitamin D /K2 spray to keep my vitamin D topped up.

I’d say your doctors definitely need to address your low folates and ferritin and your B12 too although they will probably say that as you’re within the range that it’s OK - mine did and I’ve got a family history of PA which is why I top up myself.

Did your Gp do the bloods for these results...you would have thought he might have treated you for deficiencies? Do you have Hashimoto's disease characterised by poor gut absorption, and frequently low nutrient levels? The D3 800iu dose is only a maintenance dose for those with reasonable result in the first place- consider another spray ( eg Better You) 3,000 iu dose, but take 6,000 daily for 6-8 weeks, then down to 3,000 iu for another month, before retesting. Worth getting K2MK2 with vit D too as helps getting nutrients into bones/ teeth instead of staying in blood. Folate and ferritin should be at least halfway thru ranges for good thyroid health- yours are both below range...ask your Gp to test iron more thoroughly ( he could offer iron injections if needed)...200 g of liver ( or black pudding etc) weekly might help though you might be able to take iron supplements ( with vit C). Your B12 still needs raising to at least 550, this works with the folate, so perhaps you need to increase your dose. Also consider adding other vits/ mins- selenium, zinc, magnesium, other Bs. Look up SeasideSusie's replies to posts on supplements eg at top right of page 'related posts'. Good luck.
